Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD),
Mysore, has received the International Accreditation from Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA for its flagship 2 year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) conducted at its Mysore campus.
ACBSP accreditation standards are modeled on the Balridge National Quality Program. Out of thousands of B-schools in India, less than 20 B-schools are accredited by ACBSP. SDM IMD received the accreditation in November 2016.
Speaking to MBAUniverse.com on the achievement, Dr N R Parasuraman, Director, SDM IMD Mysore said, “We at SDMIMD feel that it is a validation for all the progress that the Institute has been making in both the academic and research fronts. The accreditation process involves meeting several rigorous international standards and procedures. What is even more heartening is that we took less than 2 years in completing the process.”
With this accreditation, SDMIMD has become a part of Global Education Network with ACBSP accredited campuses across the globe. The accreditation would provide SDMIMD with access to exchange programs, research programs and cultural enrichment with other member institutions. With ACBSP's student - centric teaching and learning approach, the students would get global recognition. The faculty members of SDMIMD would also become the part of global network of ACBSP accredited faculty.
ACBSP Accreditation involves rigorous processes and multi-stage evaluation process. Commenting on the same, Dr Parasuraman said. “The accreditation process involves first the submission of preliminary documents and status report to convince the authority that the Institute is ready to commence the process. After that it is a question of working on various standards, the vision and strategy of the Institute and in bringing about changes to facilitate meeting these. Here the adaptability of the Institute to change is brought to sharp focus.”
Based in Overland Park, Kansas, USA, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading specialized accreditation body for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence. ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide. Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in 2001 and again in 2011, ACBSP was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels.
In preparation for the accreditation, SDMIMD had collaborated with international management institutes of repute to conduct Student Exchange Programmes every year for an understanding of management from an international perspective. The B-school has Student Exchange Programs with Mays School of Business, Texas A&M University, USA; MBA Centre at Global Management Education Institute, Shanghai University, China; British University in Dubai; University of Dubai; University of Bordeaux, France & University of Montevideo, Uruguay.
AICTE approved PGDM, the flagship programme of SDMIMD, is designed to prepare students for the modern day industry which is undergoing a radical change in this globalized world. Students can opt to specialise in the areas of Marketing, Systems, Finance, Operations or Human Resource Management. Students have the opportunity to pursue dual specialisation. SDMIMD was established in 1994 and till date 21 batches of PGDM graduates have passed out from its portals, currently holding important positions in the Indian and foreign corporate and service organizations. Institute has a creditable placement record. The highest placement package offered at SDMIMD in 2016 is Rs.12 lakhs. The average salary offered to a SDMIMD student is Rs.6.5 lakhs.
