The wait is finally over! The much awaited The Hindu BusinessLine (HBL)-MBAUniverse.com B-school Rankings 2017 is out now. IIM Calcutta has emerged as the new No 1 B-school, edging out IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. XLRI, MDI and SPJIMR are Top 3 non-IIM B-schools on the rankings. While top 3 IIMs have similar student profiles, academic rigour, research and placements, IIM Calcutta is the only Indian B-school that has earned all the top three Global Accreditations – AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.
The Ranking uses a comprehensive 360 degree evaluation framework built around three criterion: Input, Process and Output. In line with changing trends towards mission-alignment and globalization, this year onwards, Ranking gives weightage to Top 3 International Accreditations – AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. No other International Accreditation is used for this purpose.
The Ranking was conducted in guidance of an eminent advisory body that is chaired by Dr Bakul Dholakia, Former Director, IIM Ahmedabad & Former Director General, IMI New Delhi. Speaking on the Rankings, Dr Dholakia said, “B-school Rankings serve a useful purpose of evaluating hundreds of institutions on key parameters for the benefit of student community, recruiters and other stakeholders. This year’s Rankings 2016-17, which I have chaired, make a sincere effort to identify the Best B-schools.”

Ranking 2016-17 Highlights are:
-- Conducted under the guidance of Ranking Advisory Committee comprising of distinguished management academics and researchers
-- Comprehensive 360 degree Rankings created based on three criteria: Input (Applications & Student selection), Process (Academic rigor based on curriculum, research, faculty quality), Output (Quality of Placements, Entrepreneurship initiatives)
-- Follows a completely data-driven methodology: No ‘perception survey’ data is used. By comparison, almost media rankings give 50% weightage to perception survey data, where top quality B-schools that keep a low profile are ranked lower than average b-schools who spend high on advertising.
-- Ranking Methodology based on advanced statistical techniques and procedures of data validation and estimation, like Factor Analysis and Principal Component Analysis
-- In line with changing trends, this year onwards, Ranking gives weightage to Top 3 International Accreditations – AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.
