CAT 2018 was 2nd attempt
We can say that Swapnil Suman is sound time lucky. Or that fortune favours the prepared ones. CAT 2018 was Suman’s second attempt. He had scored 99.75 percentile but he couldn’t secure admission into Top B-schools like IIM A or IIM B or IIM C. Hence he was ready to give it another shot with CAT 2018.
CAT 2018 Preparation Strategy
Last year, in summer of 2017, Suman first started preparing for CAT. Initially, Suman started preparing with books by two well known authors Arun Sharma (for VARC and DILR) and Sarvesh Verma (for QA). After a few weeks, he took mocks and scored very high. Thereafter he decided to only focus on Mock tests series.
For CAT 2018, Suman started preparation only in August and took mocks of all leading coaching centers. He took more than 50 mocks in total!
Why did he score 100% this year and improved his score? He says that proper analysis and learning from mistakes was the key mantra. Suman not just took a lot of test best he made sure he analysed all of them very well. And he is pleased with the result!
According to Suman, Verbal Ability was his weakest section. This is true for many engineers, if not all. Reading a newspaper everyday was a key mantra to improve. He also read some books.
As a keen quizzer, DILR was not to worry Suman. Given his engineering education, Suman was comfortable with Quant too.
No formal coaching
Suman did not join any coaching institute except for taking mock test series by TIME, IMS and CL. Given his strong fundamentals, the strategy worked for him.
Only Top IIMs and FMS Delhi
Given that he has topped in CAT 2018, he is only planning for top 3 IIMs and FMS Delhi.
