Management Avenues 2010 has been successful in fulfilling its objective of providing a platform to MBA aspirants where they get the opportunity to get guided by VCs, Deans and Directors of India’s leading universities and students from top MBA schools.
Continuing with its successful journey, which began from the city of Kanpur on January 19, the 8-city Management Avenues 2010 dropped its anchor in the holy city of Varanasi, which is renowned for its centers of higher learning, on January 22. The venue was Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Jagatganj, Varanasi. More than 600 MBA aspirants from the city and nearby towns participated in the event.
The keynote speakers for the inaugural session were: Prof. H. C. Chaudhary, former Head & Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Prof M. M. Pant, Member of Board of Management, IIT Delhi & Former Faculty at IIT Kanpur and University of Western Ontario, Canada.
Prof. Chaudhary and Prof. Pant shared their experiences and ideas with the MBA aspirants on the topic of “India, You & MBA – Tapping a Billion Opportunities Ahead!”.
Explaining the impact of the MBA course on one’s personal and professional life, Prof. Pant said, “Your actions and decisions will build India of tomorrow and that of yours too. MBA brings effectiveness in all spheres of life. While bad management can bring down any business, good management takes the business to newer heights.”
Dr. Pant further added, “As an MBA you have to develop an understanding of various areas which includes the understanding of figures and quantitative studies, data analysis, having a structured and logical way of reasoning and very importantly command over the language to express your understanding in English.”
Describing the trends in the industry of today Dr. Pant said, “Businesses today a bunch of contracts and the times when everything was done in-house is gone (Ford has vast land,where the company reared sheeps. Wool from the sheeps was used to manufacture the seat cover of the cars). Today one car manufacturer can get into set of contracts and even gets the engine from external source and market a world class car. So the dynamics of managing businesses has changed and is changing very fast. You as an aspiring MBA need to be flexible and ready to adapt any change. The businesses today offer new set of challenges and the hence opportunities. So be ready for it.”
Prof H C Chaudhary in his speech emphasized the importance of self-evaluation. He said, “Self evaluation is must for any MBA aspirant. Before you take the decision of going further in any field, more importantly for MBA. To get into a great B-School you need to start believing from today, that you can do it. To move forward you need to find out your weaknesses.”
Prof. Chaudhary further added, “Since nobody is perfect, so you can have weaknesses, but the success lies in the fact that acknowledge your weaknesses, work on those and most importantly don't follow a herd mentality. You have to think differently from the crowd. While your effort should be to work on your weaknesses, you should also know your strengths and build those strengths further. Life doesn't give any second chance, you are here take full knowledge from the experts today and take an informed decision.”
Mr. Anupam Raghuvanshi, Director, T.I.M.E. Varanasi was the key speaker for the next session on the topic of “MBA Entrance Process Covering Written Test, GD PI”.
There was also a special session by MBA students from IIM, FMS and IIFT. Mr. Indranil Saha, PGP Student at IIM Lucknow; Mr. Mayur Toshniwal, MBA student at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi and Mr. Abhinav Agarwal, MBA Student at FMS, Delhi addressed the gathered MBA aspirants under the topic “My MBA Experience & How MBA Aspirants Should Plan to Enter a Top B-school”.
The MBA students guided the MBA aspirants on how to select an MBA school, how to prepare for MBA entrance exams, future career avenues for MBAs. They also shared their experience as a MBA student of top B-schools of the country.
The MBA fair, in which leading MBA schools showcased their MBA programmes and provided counseling to the MBA aspirants on how to gain admission, was also a grand success with high number of footfalls.
Management Avenues 2010 Schedule
The city of Ranchi will have its date with Management Avenues 2010 on January 29.
After Ranchi Management Avenues 2010 would be held at the following cities across India: Patna (30 January), Meerut (1 February), Agra (2 February).

The 2010 event is the second edition of Management Avenues, the unique initiative by MBAUniverse.com and Dainik Jagran’s iNext newspaper.
