The Annual Meeting 2010 of World Economic Forum finally got started today in Davos, Switzerland. Top business leaders and politicians from around the world have come to Davos for the 5-day forum. The official theme of this year's meeting is "Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild". The debate on how best to reform the global financial system is set to be the dominating agenda in the event - the 40th of its kind. Bankers and regulators are expected to clash on where to draw the line when it comes to financial reform.

Furthermore, ideas on how best to move the global economy forward will be explored by 2,500 participants from around 90 countries comprising heads of governments, ministers, bankers, CEOs and public figures.

India's Future Agenda
On January 30 there will be a special session on the topic of ‘India's Future Agenda’. The session will deliberate on the impact of 2009 victory of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), which was the first time since 1962 that an Indian prime minister was elected to a second five-year term. It will discuss: “How will this renewed political mandate reshape the country's agenda in key areas of public finance, trade, investment, infrastructure and rural development?”

The panelists for the session include: Reuben Abraham, Executive Director, Centre for Emerging Markets Solutions, Indian School of Business; Montek S. Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission; Hari S. Bhartia, Co-Chairman and Managing Director, Jubilant Organosys and Vice-President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII); Shyam Saran, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India; Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India; N. K. Singh, Member of Parliament, India.

The Annual Meeting 2010 programme will focus on six areas:

-- How to Strengthen Economic and Social Welfare
-- How to Mitigate Global Risks and Address Systemic Failures
-- How to Ensure Sustainability
-- How to Enhance Security
-- How to Build Effective Institutions
