The IIMs are ready to set the ball rolling for the final placements 2010. IIM Ahmedabad has announced that it will start the placement process by next week. The MBA school has adopted a cohort system for this year’s placements, which will make it a two month long process. It has done away with the Day Zero system. Treading their own path IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta have announced the dates for their Day Zero, which is 4 and 6 March respectively.

This year the overall scenario looks very bullish with the upward swing in Indian economy. The MBA students are also very excited with the changed economic scenario. According to the findings of the ‘MBAUniverse.com Career Aspirations of MBAs Survey – 2010’ this year the final year MBA students are expecting better placements as compared to 2009 final placements. The survey was conducted across top 25 leading MBA schools of India, which included IIM Calcutta; IIM Lucknow; IIM Indore; IIM Kozhikode.

Unlike the year 2008-09 when there was widespread sadness over the global economic scenario in the MBA student community with the downfall of major financial firms globally, this year the thoughts on the placement scenario are upbeat with improvements observed in varied sectors of Indian as well as global economy.

According to the survey findings, MBA students are excited with the upward turn in India’s economy. To the question “What are your expectations from MBA Placements 2010, when compared with 2009?” 90% of the MBAs answered “Much better than 2009”. This truly indicates the high level of optimism amongst the MBAs.

The summer placements at IIMs in the end of year 2009 had earlier confirmed the upbeat trend in India’s economy. Leading financial firms, FMCG companies, global consulting firms gave attractive offers to the students. The final placements are obviously full of optimism.

On the salary expectation front the MBA students want to make the most of the good times in Indian economy. 60% of MBAs expect an annual salary between Rs. 11 to 15 lakhs. There are more big dreamers who expect more. These big dreamers (20%) are dreaming to get an annual salary between Rs. 16 and 20 lakhs.
