The MBAUniverse.com Poll, conducted from 1 to 6 February 2010, has revealed that India’s management fraternity and the MBA education community are in favour of giving more weightage to GD&PI, as compared to test scores, for selecting future managers. Currently majority of the leading B-schools give 70% weightage to the entrance exam scores and 30% weightage to GD and PI.

To the question: Should GD-PI be given more weightage (compared to test scores) in selecting future managers? 54% respondents have said ‘Yes’ and 45% respondents have said ‘No’, 1% have clicked on ‘Can’t Say’. A total of 165 respondents participated in this week’s poll.

Mani Ram, one of the respondents has commented: “Yes. GD&PI should be given more weightage after all life is all about presenting yourself. Imagine an MBA student who does not know how to give a power point presentation. It will take the company into loss. So I would definitely say that GD&PI should get more weightage.”

We talked to Asha Rani, a MBA student studying at a leading B-school. She said, “Only GD&PI can test whether the candidate is genuinely interested in doing MBA or is just following the common trend. Hence it should be given more importance than entrance scores.”

The Poll has once again brought to the forefront the critical importance of communication skills, leadership qualities, and awareness, for selecting our future managers.

The next MBAUniverse.com Poll, that will be live from February 8, will raise the important question of: “For more inclusion, should IIMs put a restriction on number of engineering students gaining entry?”
