Uddyam 2010
Uddyam 2010 was organised on February 7 by the Entrepreneurship committee of SPJIMR in association with the Technopreneur Promotion Program (TePP) of the Department of Science and Technology (Government of India). TePP prototypes were presented to B-School students and they came up with commercialization plans or I-Plans for the prototypes.

Over 100 teams from B-schools all over India participated in the event. The top six were selected by the internal jury based on the executive summaries the teams submitted.

The six shortlisted teams were supported with a mentorship phase to further develop their proposed innovation plans. Each of the six finalists were allotted a particular mentor who came in with wide industry & academic experience. Mentors were allotted based on the product which the teams chose & the area of expertise which the mentor brought with him.

Each of the teams worked closely with the mentors allotted to them. The mentorship phase ran for a period of two weeks from 22 January 2010 till the day of closing of the event. Feedback from the teams indicated that there were tangible benefits brought into their business plans during the mentorship period. Further, they were happy with the kind of guidance and support from the mentors given the absence of the innovator.

On 7 February the final phase of Uddyam 2010 was held on the SPJIMR campus in Mumbai. Dr. YS Rajan, the Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor, ISRO graced the event as the keynote speaker and gave an inspiring keynote address. He appreciated the objective of the Uddyam to involve B-school students in commercializing the innovations.

The winners were Team Asthra from SPJIMR, Mumbai, followed by Team Minerva from SPJIMR, Mumbai and Team Les Kreatifs from IIM, Khozikode.

Carpe Diem 2010
The curtains came down on Carpe Diem 2010, the annual cultural fest of IIM Calcutta, this February 7 with a stunning display of indie-rock by Faridkot, one of the finalists of the Channel V Launchpad, rendering their most popular numbers like Laila and Khel Khel Mein.

The hour-long mesmerizing performance was followed by the inspiring and energetic fusion rock gig by Mrigya, with members jamming on the electric guitar interspersed with the tunes of the violin and the tabla. As Joka enjoyed every bit of this momentous occasion, two events which captured the fancy of the participants and organisers alike were the Bartending and Salsa workshops held in this edition of the fest. Both were new concepts being tried out and hence a bit of apprehension hung in the air.

The massive turnout in both the events, participation from both IIM-Cians and invitee colleges and the positive feedback shared by the event co-ordinators reaffirmed that this was one change lapped up really enthusiastically.

While the Salsa workshop saw around thirty couples swinging to the beats and trying out a plethora of new moves, the Bartending workshop held in collaboration with Bacardi literally saw the juices flowing. It was a whole new experience to see the prospective managers dish out the Martinis and Margaritas with élan.
