The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is organising the International Conference on Competitive Cities at New Delhi on 8 March 2010. The theme of the conference is “City Development: Emerging Business Models”. The Institute of Competitiveness is the Knowledge Partner for the conference. MBAUniverse.com is the Official Management Portal of the event.

With 30 per cent of India already living in town and cities, it is projected that in the next 2 decades nearly half of India would be living in urbanized areas. A major challenge would be to developing new cities especially tier 2 and 3 cities as alternate hubs for commercial activity and migration. This becomes more important by looking at the fact that the present metros are reeling under severe resource and infrastructure crunch.

The conference will take the discussion to a new level in what promises to be an event that will have an impact for years to come on the urban debate. Some of the debates would look at urban mobility, diversity, environment, social development, new business models for making impact on liveability of cities et al.

Various stakeholders would come together at the conference to ensure that the conference makes a lasting contribution to new ideas and solutions. This event would bring together government leaders, ministers, mayors, diplomats, non-governmental organizations, academics, professionals, Developers, Investors, Hotel Operators, Realtors, Real Estate Managers, architects, auto companies, Consultants & Other Service Providers, Corporates both in Public & Private Sectors Financial Institutions, Banks, Asset Management Companies Consulting & Legal Firms, Infrastructure & Facility Managers and slum dweller groups who are all working towards smarter cities.

On this occasion a report on “Liveability Index: The Best Cities in India” would also be released which looks at some of the themes of the conference. The report is being commissioned in conjunction with Institute for Competitiveness India.
