IIM Bangalore Placements 2010 confirm boom in India’s banking and financial sector

IIM Bangalore concluded its final placement process for 2010 on Monday, 8 March, achieving 100% placement for its batch

IIM Bangalore concluded its final placement process for 2010 on Monday, 8 March, achieving 100% placement for its batch of 270 students within a record span of just 5 days. A total of 120 companies visited the MBA school campus during this period. 15 companies visited the MBA school for the first time this year.

The banking and financial services sector, with 27% of the offers, was the largest recruiter, with consulting (22%) being a close second. The other major sectors were IT & Systems (20%), marketing (12%), and general management (9%) with the remainder accounted for by PE, emerging sectors and PSUs.

 “While the focus remained on traditional sectors like banking, consulting, marketing and general management, this year also witnessed companies in emerging sectors like healthcare and energy exhibiting interest and offering several high-level positions,” informed Ms. Sapna Agarwal, Placement Head, IIM Bangalore.

“Lateral placements were also at an all time high owing to the higher degree of average work experience amongst the current batch,” Ms. Agarwal added.

Slot Zero recruiters
Some of the Slot Zero recruiters who visited the MBA school this year were: McKinsey & Co., Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Co., Booz & Co., A.T. Kearney, Diamond Consulting, Alvarez & Marsal, Nomura and Temasek Holdings. P&G, ITC and American Express were the prominent recruiters, making 6 offers each. Amongst the first-time recruiters, Narayana Hrudyalaya, the renowned inclusive healthcare group, offered senior level positions to 6 students. In all 64 students accepted offers from Slot Zero companies.

International positions
Several companies including Nomura, Temasek, P&G, Enzen, Arvin Meritor and UAE Exchange offered international positions to the candidates.

Women’s choice
The 45 women in the batch accepted offers across various sectors including investment banking, consulting and PE, as well as offers outside India.
