    Convocation XXII

The 17th of September, 2016 witnessed the hosting of the 22nd convocation at NITIE, Mumbai. It was a stirring ceremony conducted to commemorate the dedication of yet another batch of bright, young managers to the service of the nation. The event was hosted in the iconic NITIE lawns. The leaden sky notwithstanding, the expansive Vihar lake and the lush hills offered a perfect backdrop for the auspicious occasion.

The Honourable Director of NITIE. Dr(Mrs) Karuna Jain, kicked off proceedings by welcoming all students past and present and the dignitaries. She presented NITIE’s annual report. She highlighted several achievements of the institution during the past year both in the academic and professional fields. She awarded a total of 361 Post Graduate Diplomas and 11 Fellowship degrees. The toppers across all disciplines namely IM, IE, ISEM, PM and MM received recognition from the Director for their superb efforts. It was a proud moment indeed for the students and also their parents who had accompanied them.

Next to take to the dais was the Honourable Chief Guest Dr(Mrs) Tessy Thomas, Advanced System Laboratory, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, GoI. Dr Thomas acknowledged NITIE’s immense contribution to Indian industry and feted the institution’s rich legacy in the field of Industrial Engineering. She delivered the XXII Convocation address where she exhorted students to rise above obstacles, real or imagined, and dedicate their careers to the common and national good. Wise words indeed from the distinguished lady who herself has broken many a glass ceiling.

The event concluded with the customary flinging of graduation caps into the air by the former students. It marked the rite of passage for them – a metamorphosis from an academic to a full-fledged professional. Finally, under the fluttering Indian tricolour atop NITIE’s brand new main building, the assemblage passionately sung the National Anthem which brought down the curtains on a memorable day.
