General Awareness section in IIFT entrance exam is equally important and is a stand-alone section. It can improve your score as unlike other entrance tests, IIFT requires the test taker to individually qualify in this section to get into the first stage shortlisting.
28-30 questions could be there to test the General Awareness of the aspirants in IIFT Nov 2016 entrance exam. Questions cover conventional as well as current national and international affairs and relevant economic, business topics apart from major policy decisions.
The only change in General Awareness section of IIFT entrance exam is its fluctuating nature of number of questions. The questions can be anywhere between 28 to 30 in number. All the questions are in MCQ format.
Last year there were 28 questions in general Awareness section carrying a weightage of 14% marks to total maximum test score in the IIFT entrance exam.
Scoring pattern in IIFT 2016 will award 0.50 mark to each correct answer and therefore total score for 28 questions would come to 14 marks out of total 100 marks.
The section is equally important since the test taker has to score well in this section to qualify for the shortlisting. The sectional score is considered at par with other 3 sections to get into the merit list.
Sectional cut off
Sectional cut off in General Awareness section goes below even 1 mark. In IIFT 2015 exam the cut off in General Awareness section was only 0.82 mark out of maximum 14 marks assigned for this section.

Each part needs due weightage. Conventional GK is available in books; Current GK is based on current reading of newspapers and periodicals; Business & Economics GK reflect the changes in Fiscal and monetary policy, CRR, Repo Rate, Devaluation and up valuation of Rupee.
Current GK on Business, national and international has an on-going preparation method. Thorough reading of the newspaper only can keep the aspirant updated.
Out of 0.50 mark for each correct answer in General Awareness section, IIFT entrance test has 1/3 negative marking system. A penalty of 0.17 mark for every wrong answer will be imposed.
Historical data of IIFT reveals that year after year the entrance exam has been exploring more depths of knowledge and intelligence of candidates, testing them with the well established and twisted form of GK questions.
Difficulty level in General Awareness section is fairly high and needs well updated information to attempt the test. IIFT aspirants, if prepare well can crack this part with regular study of GK.
