Q.I have passed 12th with 95%marks & will join IIT Roorkee this year. Doing MBA from Indian institutes (IIMs) is good or from abroad? (August 1, 2009)(Anuj - Durg)
A.If you want to do your MBA immediately after your Bachelors degree, then IIMs are the best options. However, outside India, there is a very unique program offered by Harvard Business School. This program, called the HBS 2+2 MBA, is specifically designed for students who are in their second or third year of engineering degree. You will be able to find more information about this program at http://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/2+2/ If you can get admission in Harvard, then it will be by far the best option. Q.Sir, how to get into the elite institutions like Harvard, Kellogg’s, Wharton? How to prepare for GMAT? How should I write that all-important admission essay, who should write my letter of recommendation? (August 1, 2009)(JICKY - India)
A.While giving out admission offers, US universities take a lot of things into consideration like- GMAT score, undergrad education (quality of school from which the degree was completed and the performance in the degree), quantity & quality or work-experience, extra curricular activities, leadership experiences, application essays and letters of recommendation. As for GMAT preparation, the first step should be to take a diagnostic test. This will help you know where you stand. Once you find out what your weak areas are you will then have to make your study schedule accordingly. For a good student, 3-4 hours of regular and serious study daily for a period of 5-6 months should be enough. You can do the following to improve your chances of admission in a top B school like Harvard, Kellogg, etc. : 1. Get as high a GMAT score as possible. A 750+ score is a definite plus. 2. In your work profile, add leadership/supervisory positions and international exposure. 3. Add extra curricular activities like community service, adventure sports, foreign languages, music, etc. Try to add as many different aspects to your personality as possible. 4. Write excellent essays and LORs (Answered by Mr Vineet Gupta, Director, Jamboree-India's one of the leading GMAT-prep company)

Q.Hello Sir, I have been employed as an Associate Consultant. Earlier, I had achieved Bachelor's degree in IT in the year 2007.I am looking forward to have a GMAT coaching. So how much time is actually needed to prepare to at least score enough to get through the top 25? Is my experience of 1.5 years (till date) sufficient to have a call from any of the prestigious universities offering MBA? (August 1, 2009)(Shauryadutt S. Sisodia - India)
