Mr RC Bhargava,
Chairman, Maruti Ugyog Ltd

Mr. R.C. Bhargava is Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Ranchi; and Chairman of the board of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. since 2007. He has also been on the Board of Governors of IIM Lucknow, and associated with other IIMs also.

Mr Bhargava headed ‘IIM Governance Committee’ formed by ministry of HRD and made several recommendations in 2008 for administrative reforms in IIMs.

A former IAS, who played a significant role in building what Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is today, since almost its inception, is also the President and CEO of RCB Consulting Pvt. Ltd, a firm engaged in management and human resource consultancy.

Mr Bhargava joined Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., almost immediately after its incorporation, as Director of Marketing in the year 1981. He later served as the Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (formerly, Maruti Udyog Ltd.) from 1985-1990 and Chairman & Managing Director from 1990-92. In 1992, when Suzuki acquired 50 per cent equity in Maruti, he continued as the Managing Director as Suzuki's nominee.

He is also on the Board of many reputed companies including Dabur India Ltd, IL&FS Ltd, Grasim Industries Ltd, Ultra Tech Cement Company Ltd, Lord Krishna Bank Ltd, Polaris Software Lab Ltd, Taj Asia Ltd, and Global Education Management Systems Private Ltd. He has held several senior positions with the Government of India (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Joint Secretary in Cabinet Secretariat) and Public Sector Undertakings (Director- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.) during 1974-1981.

Mr. Bhargava joined the Indian Administrative Service (I.A.S.) in 1956 and stood 1st in the batch and was allotted to the U.P. cadre. He holds a Master of Sciences degree in Mathematics from Allahabad University, India and a Master of Arts in Developmental Economics from Williams College, Williams town, MA, USA.
