All about NMAT 2015

NMAT 2015 the entrance exam of SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies has been taken over by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) in March 2015. Henceforth NMAT 2015 will be known as ‘NMAT by GMAC’. The first ‘NMAT by GMAC’ with no changes in content of the test is going to be conducted from October 6 to December 19, 2015. Apart from NMIMS 11 other private Universities and B schools will also accept NMAT by GMAC scores for the MBA/PGDM batch 2016-18.

NMAT test taker can take the exam thrice. NMAT, conducted by Pearson Vue, has become computer based test from 2010. If a candidate is not satisfied by his NMAT 2015 score in the first attempt he may schedule for Re-take NMAT. In case of candidates taking more than one attempt the best score which is the total score & its respective sectional score, which makes the candidate eligible as per the cut offs declared by NMAT by GMAC will be considered for short listing for subsequent process. Sectional as well as total scores are included in cut offs.

For Admissions to NMIMS full-time Management Programs at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad campus, applicants shall be able to take online NMAT 2015 test in a window period of 75 days from October 6 to  December 19, 2015.

Admission for all the Full Time Programmes mentioned above is through NMAT by GMAC Test.

NMAT by GMAC will be conducted in a time frame of 3 months, allowing choice of two retakes to the students should any of them wish to. In such cases, the best of three scores will be considered.

NMIMS had decided to merge its two focused-MBA programs MBA (Banking) and MBA (Capital Markets) with its flagship MBA Program due to changing recruitment trends and the preference of aspirants to flagship MBA program.

NMAT by GMAC Registration Trends
There was no dip in NMIMS NMAT registration figure last year. According to NMIMS, the NMAT registrations for NMAT Oct-Dec 2014 exam were more than 60000 candidates.

One of the reasons for NMAT numbers remaining stable is higher test-takers from South India, particularly Bangalore and Hyderabad, both combined have 13% share in NMAT registrations.

Further analysis of the past NMAT registration data throws up interesting trends. Almost half of the pool has work experience and most of them hold technical or managerial positions. As many as 67% of the registered candidates are engineers followed by 20% from commerce stream. The highest number of candidates is from North region with 37% share of NMAT 2014 registrations followed by Maharashtra & West region with 32% share.

NMAT 2014 Results Analysis
Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor of NMIMS informed MBAuniverse.com that the Cutoff for last year NMAT results i.e. NMAT 2014 was declared as 94.709%. The cut-off for NMAT 2013 was 94.936%. Shortlisted candidates include 24% females, which is 5% more as compared to NMAT 2013. “This year, we have also noticed substantial increase in preference for MBA-HR. Total 872 candidates shortlisted for MBA-HR compared to 698 candidates last year. 85% of shortlisted candidates are engineering graduate”, informed Dr Saxena.

NMAT by GMAC Eligibility 
As per the eligibility criteria of NMAT 2015 candidates having full time Bachelor's Degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from a UGC recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt are eligible to apply for NMAT by GMAC.  The candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through distance learning, correspondence courses, externally, open school are not eligible to apply. Only shortlisted candidates will be allowed to participate in written Test, Case Discussion (CD) and Personal Interview (PI). Candidates can apply for more than one Programme/Campus as per their eligibility by giving preferences.

Eligibility criteria for different programmes at NMIMS:
1. MBA CORE:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.

2. MBA Actuarial Science:- Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Engineering /Economics / Computer Science with minimum 50% marks in Aggregate in first attempt. Candidates with Professional Qualifications like A.C.A. (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) & ICWA (Institute of Cost & Works Accountant of India) can also apply.

3. MBA Banking:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt

4. MBA Capital Market:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt

5. MBA HR - Selection process is separate:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt

6. MBA Pharmaceutical Management Selection process is separate:- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Science, Life Sciences, Medical doctors MBBS, BDS, BSMS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS, B.Sc and M.Sc in Biotechnology from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt. Post Graduate degree in Economics, Psychology and Sociology can also apply.

7. PGDM – Bangalore campus:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.

8. PGDM – Hyderabad campus:- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.

NMAT by GMAC Syllabus

NMAT 2015 exam pattern
NMAT 2015 exam pattern will be different from other MBA exams. NMAT 2015 will be an objective type multiple-choice test. The total time given for the test is 120 minutes to solve 120 questions. There will be no descriptive type questions. The difficulty level of NMAT exam pattern is on the easier side when compared to CAT, XAT and IIFT. NMAT 2015 exam pattern consists of the following:

1.  Language skills: This section has 32 questions and a time of 22 minutes is given to solve them all.
2.  Quantitative Skills: This section carries 48 questions which are to be solved in a time period of 60 minutes.
3.  Logical Reasoning: Carries 40 questions which are to be solved in 38 minutes.

It is important for the students to perform well in each of the 3 sections of the NMAT 2015 paper pattern as the score of each section and the overall score will be used to shortlist the candidates for the second stage of the selection process as well as in the final ranking. There is no negative marking in the NMAT 2015 Exam Pattern.

Each of the three sections of the NMAT 2015 exam is individually timed and candidates can choose the section sequence.

NMAT by GMAC: key dates
For Admissions to NMIMS and other 11 Universities & B-schools’ full-time Management Programs  applicants shall be able to take online NMAT 2015 test in a window period of almost 2 and a half months from 06th October to 19th December 2015.

NMAT 2015 will be conducted at 27 centres in 18 cities located at Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Bhillai, Bhopal, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Kolkata and Patna. The last date of registration for NMAT 2015 is October 5, 2015.

Students of foreign countries and Persons of Indian Origin (POI) need not take NMAT, however their GMAT score shall be considered for admission.

The NMAT 2015 results will be announced in the month of January 15, 2016.
