CNBC TV18 'A of B Ranking' puts IIM A as # 1 Businessschool in India; offers many surprises too

India's leading business news channel CNBC TV18, along with India's leading MBA portal MBAUniverse.com and global research agency TNS, have announced the CNBC TV18 'A of B Ranking' on November 8, 2008.

According to the Rankings released on CNBC TV18, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM A) has been crowned as India's # 1 B-school.

In a first of its kind research and analysis, the 'A of B Ranking' survey looks at three different viewpoints to present the complete 360 degree picture on which are the leading MBA Schools in India. While rigorous data-driven analysis uses information and data provided directly by IIMs and 90+ other MBA Schools , perception poll on MBAUniverse.com brings perspectives from the MBA students, aspirants and alumni; and, recruiter's poll on Jobstreet.com bares the mind of HR community.  

According to the analysis of quantitative data from MBA schools, while IIM-A is the # 1 B-school, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM B) and Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM L) has been ranked as the # 2 & # 3 B-schools in India. Delhi NCR bases Management Development Institute (MDI) has edged out a few IIMs and other top MBA schools to claim the # 4 position.

Going by the Quantitative Survey data, Jamshedpur based MBA School Xavier's Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) is pegged at #5 position. Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM C) is ranked at # 6. The real surprise in the Quantitative Rankings comes in from New Delhi based MBA School International Management Institute (IMI) which is ranked at # 8. Table below has more details.

The data from IIMs and 90+ other MBA schools was analyzed by global research agency TNS to prepare a Quantitative Ranking of India's Top MBA schools.

Since beliefs and perceptions of management community matter, Student's poll data on India's Top MBA schools was analyzed as well. Over 5,000 stakeholders participated in this poll on MBAUniverse.com. The perception data was also analyzed by TNS. The data analysis offers a lot of interesting trends.

That IIMs enjoy great brand equity, is clear from the analysis of the Student's Poll data. As many as five IIMs are part of Top 10 rankings table. While IIM A, IIM B, IIM C and IIM L are ranked as top 4 MBA schools in India, IIM Indore is ranked at # 8. One of the pioneers on management education in India, Delhi based Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) is ranked at #6. The Quantitative Survey sought detailed inputs from Directors and Deans on three key parameters via a 30+ pages rigorous questionnaire: a) quality of talent admitted to an MBA school, b) quality of academic inputs, pedagogical tools and industry exposure during two years MBA programme, and c) Quality of career & placements received by students at the end of the MBA course. Academicians across India's leading 90 MBA schools provided weightage score to these parameters, which were then used for final analysis.
