After providing you the syllabus, analyses and pattern of the last five years of CAT paper in the Quantitative and Verbal Ability sections, today is the turn of the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section. The section of Data Interpretation is often misinterpreted as the Math section. Though there is some similarity but the method of problem solving is not the same. This article will tell you the strategies which you can apply to excel in this area. Let us have a look at the year wise trend of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section of CAT exam.
CAT exam 2005
There were 30 questions in the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section of CAT paper 2005 out of 90 questions. The questions were divided in two sub sections, of which the sub-section B was pretty tough. It would have taken much time for the students to solve this section. These questions were more reasoning based than calculation intensive.
The questions on Logical Reasoning section were tough. The regular questions on Puzzles, Games etc. were not there this year.
CAT exam 2006
The number of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning questions was 25. The questions were easier than CAT paper 2005 and were more reasoning based. According to Career Launcher, the questions were common from the mock tests and the CAT takers had found them familiar.
The questions on Analytical Reasoning and one Data Interpretation question on Network were easy. But the other Data Interpretation questions based on tables were on the tougher side. The questions on caselets too were pretty tough.
CAT exam 2007
There were 25 questions out of 75 on the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section. The questions were pretty easy so they were attemptable and solvable at one go. In the Data Interpretation part, there were Data Sufficiency questions as well which was not there in CAT 2006. The Data Sufficiency questions were tricky but solvable. The stress was more on logic than calculation. But some of the questions were calculation intensive too, in spite of being reasoning oriented.
CAT exam 2008
CAT paper 2008 had 90 questions in total and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section consisted of 25 questions. The section was tougher than last year and there were some marked changes as well. For the Data Interpretation section, the questions were on calculating percentages, differences, manipulate quantities etc.
The Logical Reasoning questions were there too after the absence in last year. The questions were tricky in nature.
CAT exam 2009
In CAT paper 2009, the section of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section had 20 questions out of total 60 questions. This section was tougher than the other two sections in this year. The questions were based on Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency and Reasoning. While the Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency questions were calculation intensive, the Reasoning questions were on easier lines.
