With the commencement of the new academic session the leading B-schools of the country are announcing the updates/changes in the MBA course curriculum and pedagogy. For the 2010-12 session, most of the notable B-schools are making some or the other updates/changes in their curriculum to fulfill the changing needs of the society and the industry. 

In our special series on MBA curriculum and MBA Course, we have been identifying the changes or the plans which the B-schools have for the batch of 2010-12. After having brought to you the curriculum details of XLRI Jamshedpur, LIBA Chennai, BIMTECH Greater Noida and IIM Ahmedabad, today we will share the MBA curriculum and MBA Course details of MDI Gurgaon.

In an exclusive communication to MBAUniverse.com, Dr. B S Sahay, Director, MDI Gurgaon has presented the MBA curriculum details of the reputed B-School. In the year 2010, MDI Gurgaon has admitted 240 students for the PGPM course, 60 in the PGPHR and 30 in the PGPIM courses. 

Let us have a look at the details of the MBA course curriculum. 

Update in MBA curriculum: Need of the hour

Dr. Sahay has informed that there has been no particular change in the MBA course curriculum of the MBA programs in MDI Gurgaon. However, the MBA course has been updated as per the need of the hour. “In MDI Gurgaon, we believe in continuously updating the academic input to keep it in sync with the needs of the industry and learning from research and development, said Dr. Sahay. 

Contact Hours remain Constant

The Contact Hours for the MBA programs in MDI Gurgaon are 1100 hours. The students also have to undergo eight to 10 weeks of Summer Internship. But the overall Contact Hours has not witnessed any change since last year. In addition to class work, students have to do 8 to 10 weeks of summer internship.  There is no change since last year, says Dr. Sahay. 

Field Work and Industry Interface

Like any other top B-School, field work and industry interface form an integral part of MDI Gurgaon MBA curriculum. “Class room interaction develops the students’ conceptual understanding of the subject and attempts to bring in real life context through pedagogical tools like case methods.  Field work in industry interaction provides a window to students to apply their learning in real life projects and to help them in appreciating nuances in practically delivering results using conceptual understanding, said Dr. Sahay. 

Role of Ethics in MBA Curriculum

According to Dr. Sahay, Business ethics has a very important role to play in the MBA curriculum of MDI. Business Ethics is a compulsory MBA course in our Post Graduate Program in Management. Many faculty members in their respective MBA courses have started bringing up the issues around Business Ethics in their classes, Dr. Sahay informed. He also mentioned that Business Ethics is discussed on various platforms such as student events, industry interaction with the students, panel discussions etc.
