  • Sir,i am a student of B.Tech E.C.E (Thapar University),i had started coaching at CL,Patiala,8 to 9 months ago, but due to my busy schedule from 8 to 5 and then cl class, i am unable to prepare! But i am having a project semester after June. So will i be able to cover the syllabus in 3 to 4 months. I had scored 93% and 88% in 10th and 12th respectively and having a CGPA of 8.5/10.What's my scope in IIM's?   (Kunal Kohli , delhi)

    View answer

    Dear Kunal Kohli

MBAUniverse.com thanks you for posting your query.

Based on your past academic records you seem to be academically sound. Prepare a good time-table and distribute the sections according to the time set and work-hard to achieve your goal. At this stage you should concentrate in making your strengths stronger and not spend much time on the weak areas if you think that there is not enough scope for improvement. Focus on your strong areas and make them stronger if you are getting less than 50 percentile in the Mock tests in your weakest section.

Your chance to get into the IIMs depends upon the cut-off score of each institute based on the CAT exam 2012. So you should be patient and prepare yourself accordingly. I am also giving you the selection procedure of IIMs, which is:

After the CAT declares its results, all the IIMs shall be declaring their cut-off percentiles respectively and thereby calling on students who would qualify for the further rounds. Next, this year onwards, IIMs have replaced the GDs with an written exam, which they call as WAT, which involves writing essays on any random topic chosen by the authority within a pre-specified time limit. Next, the candidates shall be short-listed yet again and those who qualify shall sit for their Personal Interview sessions with the panel. They shall not only be judged on their present qualifications and skills abut past achievements and records shall also play a major role as they too contain marks. Also, IIMs give special marks to candidates with past work experiences and finally the results are disclosed by the institutes respectively.

  • Minimum Aggregate percentile needed by NC-OBC student to secure admission in IIM A/B/C?   (Rohit , Hyderabad)

    View answer

    Dear Rohit,

MBAUniverse.com thanks you for posting your query.

In the admission process of IIM A/B/C, the minimum aggregate percentile in CAT required is above 97%ile with a good academic background to get a call from IIM A, B, and C.

The selection procedure of IIMs is:

After the CAT declares its results, all the IIMs shall be declaring their cut-off percentiles respectively and thereby calling on students who would qualify for the further rounds. Next, this year onwards, IIMs have replaced the GDs with a written exam, which they call as WAT, which involves writing essays on any random topic chosen by the authority within a pre-specified time limit.

For NC-OBC candidates, there is no fixed percentile requirements and changes every year. The IIMs never really come out in the open and discuss about this subject with the media. So, we do not really know the exact percentile required for admission of NC-OBC candidates. You can contact the admissions office at respective IIMs for this information.
