IIM Ahmedabad proposes a new look and feel for its final placement season
The final placements for the 2008-10 batch is going to be held in few months time. The MBA school had conducted its final placement process this year from 25 February to 4 March for the 2007-09 batch. IIM Ahmedabad is obviously trying its best to make the final placements 2010 much better than the 2009 final placements. The final decision on the proposed changes is yet to be made by IIM-A. The decision will most likely to impact the final placements process at other IIMs as well.
According to the Business Standard newspaper “the famous ‘Day Zero’ at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will soon be history”. The report further mentions that in the meeting held with over 30 representatives of top Indian companies, IIM-A has proposed a “cluster” system by March 2010, wherein companies would be divided as per their sectors and invited on the campus in batches over the weekends.
The Business Standard report mentions that in the new system “there would be no spot offers to the students”. “Instead, there would be clusters like Investment banking, Consumer durables, etc. Under each cluster there would be cohorts (functions) like marketing, consulting, IT and sales, which the students would get to choose from. Currently, the students choose the company based on its size and branding, irrespective of what position it offers”.
The summer placements held in October-November this year indicate a very bright scenario for the final placements of the 2008-10 batch MBA students. MBAUniverse.com had reported about the 100% placements at all the IIMs despite the recession during that period. IIM-A had placed all its students for summer placements in record 4 days.
