| What
is entrepreneurship? Who is an entrepreneur? Is entrepreneurship
for you?
Answering these basic, predictable questions can be
very tough. For there is no one right answer.
In this series, we attempt to answer some of the frequently
asked questions on entrepreneurship.
Is
entrepreneurship about building an enterprise?
Biocon Chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw finds the word 'entrepreneurship'
intimidating, but the meaning quite simple. "Don't
get lost in the jargon. Entrepreneurship is nothing
but building your own business. It's about creating
a job for oneself. Entrepreneurship is about pursuing
a simple effective opportunity," she feels.
Is
entrepreneurship the ability to convert a new idea into
a business? Is it associated with innovation and job
creation?
Infosys Technologies Co-Chairman Nandan Nilekani thinks
entrepreneurship is about creating organizations and
jobs for oneself and others.
Captain Gopinath, Executive Chairman of Deccan Aviation
and father of low cost air travel in India explains
entrepreneurship as an implementation of a new business
idea that makes a difference in the existing environment.
Are
entrepreneurs born or made?
Symphony Technology Group's Chief Executive Officer
Romesh Wadhwani feels only 10 per cent of entrepreneurs
are born, the rest are made. "Reliance head Mukesh
Ambani was a born entrepreneur, but Wipro head Azim
Premji is a transformed entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship
is a mindset which is driven by one's need for achievement,
problem solving and freedom," he says.
