IIM Lucknow admission 2018: CAT 2017 cut offs announced; needs 90 overall & 85 sectional in CAT

With only 85 sectional percentile required in CAT 2017 for admission to PGP 2018-20 batch, IIM Lucknow has announced its admission criteria and award of weightage to CAT 2017 scores as well as other parameters.

Announcing the shortlisting criteria and final admission policy for PGP 2018-20 batch, IIM Lucknow has made it clear that the highly ranked B-school would prefer candidates with excellent academic profile, diversity and work experience in its class rooms for PGP 2018-20 batch. To qualify for shortlisting at IIML, CAT 2017 aspirants shall have to score a minimum 85 sectional percentile and a minimum of 90 overall percentile in the CAT 2017 exam going to be held on November 26, 2017 in 2 sessions on the same day.

CAT 2017 aspirants with excellent academic profile and seeking admission in PGP 2018-20 programme at IIM Lucknow should expect to be shortlisted even if they score a little low in CAT exam this year. IIM Lucknow has reduced the weightage to CAT 2017 scores in 1st stage shortlisting to 60% from 78% in 2016 admissions which was reduced to 60% in admission policy for 2017-19 batch and now continues with the same weightage. In the final selection also CAT 2017 scores will be awarded a low weightage of only 30% in PGP and 35% in PGP-ABP programmes commencing 2018.

The actual minimum CAT 2017 score cut off  may go up in actual shortlisitng of the candidates, in case greater number of CAT takers score more but the candidates without meeting the minimum requirement may not be shortlisted by IIM Lucknow after declaration of CAT 2017 result in second week of January, 2018.

Calculation of Composite Score for Shortlisting for WAT-PI stage Although the most important criterion for generation of merit list for WAT-PI for PGP, PGP-ABM & PGP-SM programme 2018-20 at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow is the CAT 2017 scores obtained by the eligible candidates,  IIM Lucknow will award weightage of 60 points to CAT 2017 score in shortlisting the candidates for WAT & PI round for Flagship PGP 2018-20 batch.

Only the Candidates securing the undernoted  minimum percentile in each category in CAT 2017 will be considered for calculation of their composite score in shortlisting for WAT and PI round.

PGP 2018-20
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) is the flagship programme offered by IIM Lucknow. It is a 2 year, full time residential programme. The cut offs announced by IIM Lucknow to shortlist for the programme are:

PGP-ABM 2018-20
The 2 year Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management at IIM Lucknow is a full time residential course designed to develop Agribusiness leaders, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs with vision, competence and appropriate attitude for promoting/growing agribusiness and agro-based enterprises with a strong international orientation.

PGP-SM 2018-20
IIM Lucknow’s Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable management (PGPSM) endevours to produce experts to fill the gap of sustainability issues in industry. PGPSM is a 2 years full time residential programme being offered at Noida campus of IIM Lucknow. The programme is designed to help managers to develop an ethos of environment and social responsibility and equip them with holistic skills to handle varied sustainability challenges.

Class 12 & graduation marks get 20% Weightage
Weigthage to Academic excellence is 20% during shortlisting process at IIM Lucknow for admission 2017. The maximum weightage of 10 points will be awarded  for class 12 marks scored  in a range of 98+  to 100 percentile. There will be a zero weightage if the candidate has scored less than 80 percentile in class 12. Please note this is not percentage of marks, it is the percentile score of class 12.

Graduation marks will also be awarded a weightage of 10 points by IIM Lucknow after applying the normalization process to different academic streams like Engineering; Science; Commerce; Arts and others.  

The weightage was 10% till 2016 admissions. Since admission 2017, the weightage to academics has increased to 20%.  No weightage will be awarded for marks obtained in Class X. 

Work Experience to get 10% weight
Work Experience will carry a maximum weightage of 10% in the shortlisting criteria of IIM Lucknow for admission to 2018-20 batch. Only paid and full-time work experience, acquired after completing the Bachelor’s Degree will be counted as on July 31, 2017. Apprenticeship, Articleship, Internship etc., which form an integral part of a course of study, would not be treated as work experience.

The weightage to work experience till the admission to 2016-18 batch was only 4%.

5% weightage to Academic diversity
For the flagship PGP 2018-20 programme, IIM Lucknow will award a weightage of 5 points for academic diversity. The courses that qualify for the award of weightage on academic diversity are –

Arts/Humanities: Archaeology, Education, Fine Arts (Dance, Music, Painting), Geography, History, Journalism, Languages, Library Science, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Work/Welfare, Sociology.

Commerce/Economics: Accountancy, Auditing, Banking, Business Mathematics, Business Organisation, Economics, Economic Development and Planning, Public Administration, Public Finance, Secretarial Practices, Chartered Accountancy,  Cost and Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship,

Others: Education (including Physical Education and Sports); Law; Medicine/Dentistry; Pharmacology/Pharmacy

5% Weight to Gender Diversity
A female candidate will be awarded a weightage of 5 points by IIM Lucknow during the shortlisting criteria for admission 2018.

No GD in PI round
IIM Lucknow will no longer conduct Group Discussion (GD) Round in final stage of admission process in 2018.  The 10 points that were earlier awarded to Group Discussion round now stand shifted to other components in PI round.

Final selection round
A candidate’s final score for selection in PGP/PGP-ABM/PGP-SM programme for the batch 2018–20 will be calculated on the basis of the assigned weights as given below-

The minimum requirement for getting a pass in Personal Interviews is 12 out of 40 marks. Names of candidates who do not pass in PI will not be included in the final merit list.

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 is the mandatory exam conducted by IIM Lucknow for admission to management programmes in all the 20 IIMs. CAT 2017 will also offer the admission opportunity to PGDM/MBA programme in other top management institutes in India like FMS Delhi, IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, JBIMS Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, NITIE Mumbai, Management departments of IITs, SPJIMR Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal and other more than 500 B-schools.
