IIM Indore Admission 2018: CAT 2017 cut off announced; class 10 & 12 marks get 76% weight

CAT 2017 scores will not play a major role in admission process for PGP and PGP-HRM 2018-20 batch at IIM Indore and candidates with excellent academics will be preferred by IIM-I in the shortlisting process and final admission round. This has been confirmed in the IIM Indore admission policy 2018-20 announced recently close on the heels of admission policy announced by IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta and Lucknow lowering the CAT 2017 cut offs and awarding less weightage to CAT 2017 score,

Announcing its CAT 2017 cut offs at 90 percentile in CAT exam, the admission criteria for flagship PGP 2018-20 at IIM Indore will award only 20% weightage to CAT 2017 scores and  rest to other parameters in shortlisting for PI-WAT stage.

IM Indore has again become a front runner in announcing the admission policy that will attract more candidates with excellent academic profile below graduation than only considering the CAT 2017 scores.

CAT 2017 – proposed cut offs at IIM Indore
IIM Indore will shortlist the candidates for next round of admission process comprising Written Ability Test (WAT) and personal Interview (PI) on the basis of scores obtained in CAT 2017 and other parameters.

The minimum CAT 2017 percentile cut off proposed  by IIM Indore is 90. However, the actual cut off could go beyond 92 depending upon your academic profile.

Those who have not scored a high balanced percentile in all the 3 sections in CAT 2017 may not expect to be shortlisted by IIM Indore. IIM Indore is the dream B school for MBA aspirants and one of the major USPs is that despite having high placement trends, the admission opportunity in IIM Indore can be explored with moderate CAT 2017 percentile.

The prescribed minimum CAT 2017 cut off percentile overall as well as sectional shared below indicates only the threshold limit below which IIM Indore will not consider the candidates for admission to its flagship PGP Programme 2018-20. Apart from this the candidate with slightly low percentile but excellent academic record will be preferred to be shortliste

Class 10 & 12 marks get 76% weight
Class 10 marks will be awarded 36% weight while class 12 marks will be awarded 40% weight in shortlisting process at IIM Indore but no weightage will be awarded for bachelor’s degree marks.

Candidates will be shortlisted for WAT & PI stage on the basis of composite scores which will be arrived at by accounting for the academic profile also. The Composite Score therefore is calculated on the basis of CAT 2017 score, academic scores, and gender diversity.

There will not be any weightage to the academic scores beyond class 12. Candidates scoring percentage of marks above 85 can get a good weightage in the computation of composite scores.

CAT 2017 score to get 20% weight
Weightage to your CAT 2017 scores will be computed as follows-
20* [candidate’s CAT overall score / highest CAT overall score]   

Women applicants to get 4% weight 
IIM Indore will award a weightage of 4% to female candidates only to ensure gender diversity while shortlisting the candidates for PI stage. No weightage to male or transgender candidates will be awarded.

 The computation is as follows: Gender Diversity Factor (GDF)
= 4 for Female Applicants
= 0 for Other Applicants

How to calculate your  composite score
Composite Score = Sum of the above scores (Max 100) is the formula to arrive at the maximum score to check whether you would be shortlisted by IIM Indore after CAT 2017 result is announced in the 2^nd week of January 2018.  Please note that  Zcandidate, Zmin, Zmax for 10th and 12th Standard are computed using the normalisation process.

Please also note that after declaration of shortlist, IIM Indore will not send any individual regret letter to applicants who are not shortlisted for WAT and PI.

Class X & XII get highest weight among IIMs
No other IIM including IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Lucknow has announced such a high weightage of 76% for academics upto class 12 as announced by IIM Indore in its admission criteria for PGP 2018-20. With a view to increase academic excellence in its class rooms, IIM Indore has announced award of higher weightage to excellent academic profile than to CAT 2017 scores.

There will be a diversified weightage to class 10 and class 12 marks in the Admission Policy for PGP 2018-20 batch. While the maximum weightage of 36 points will be awarded to the Class 10 marks the weightage to class 12 marks will be 40 percent on a scale of 100. Interestingly no weightage will be awarded to the excellent academic profile in graduation.

IIM Indore has announced highest weightage for academic excellence in calculating the composite scores to shortlist the candidates for 2nd  stage of admission round.

IIM Indore launches PGP-HRM
Apart from the flagship PGP programme, IIM Indore has announced to commence the PGP-HRM programme in 2018. The candidates appearing in CAT 2017 will also get the opportunity of admission to the first batch of PGP-HRM 2018-20 at IIM Indore.

Batch size to increase
So far IIM Indore used to offer admission to around 530 CAT exam takers, at its Indore and Mumbai campuses. A good number of 452-455 candidates used to be offered admission at IIM Indore at its Indore campus, 75 students used to get admission opportunity at IIM Indore-Mumbai campus.

Now, with new PGP-HRM programme added, it is expected that batch size would increase to 600 candidates.

IIM Indore conducts admission interviews in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi only.

Apart from flagship 2 years full time Post Graduate Programme in Management(PGP) at its Indore and Mumbai campus and 2 years full time PGP-HRM programme beginning in 2018, IIM Indore offers - Fellow Programme in Management (FPM); FPM Industry; Executive PGP(EPGP);  EPGP-E-Governance; 5 year integrated programme in Management. A few other MDP and certificate programmes are also conducted by IIM Indore.
