Which of the above three IIMs one should prefer? To help you out of this problem, MBAUniverse.com shares a few key parameters on which you could base your decision of choosing the best among the three.
It is not a matter of 2 years of study only, but more importantly a decision which would see the growing career path of life.

Now with most of the data available in regard to admission criteria, CAT 2013 cut off, and  Common Admission process(CAP) for admission 2014,  candidates will be receiving multiple offers of admission that could include the above 3 new IIMs. So which of the above three IIMs one should prefer definitely remains a decision making exercise. It is not a matter of 2 years of study only, but more importantly a decision which would see the growing career path of life.

To help you out of this problem, MBAUniverse.com shares a few key parameters on which you could base your decision of choosing the best among the three. The weightage matrix and key comparative criteria have been taken either from the information shared by these institutes with MBAUniverse.com or from the public domain which is open to all. Aspirants are also advised to go to the respective B schools site or register free at MBAUniverse.com site to get any updated information shared by the institute before making a final decision.

Intake in batch 2014-16
There is increase of intake in all the 3 IIMs in their Flagship Programmes from admission batch 2012-14 to 2013-15, which is expected to be again revised upwards for 2014-16. Moving towards imparting the quality education the intake is being gradually increased every year.

IIM Kashipur had 40 students in 2012-14 batch which was increased to 132 for 2013-15 batch, admission 2014-16 may have the same batch size. IIM Udaipur has increased its batch size from 110 for 2013-15 to 120 for 2014-16. IIM Raipur which had a batch size of 118 students for 2013-15 proposes to have a batch size of 120+ students for batch 2014-16. No institute would like to increase its seats unless they get the students with the prescribed criteria to keep the flag flying. Going by the above analysis, it appears that all the 3 IIMs will have increased number of seats as the same are consistently filled with the right quality of candidates.

Old is gold
Older the Institute wider is its Alumni base and better will be your chances for higher number of options to corporate and academic connections. However the 3 new IIMs have almost similar Age. Hence the Almuni base of them will more or less be the same according to their age. All of them have an age difference of few months.

While IIM Raipur was established in 2010, IIM Udaipur and IIM Kashipur were established in 2011. Although older IIM will have greater alumni network, such advantage in terms of years may yet to come for the current batch.

Core Faculty
If an IIM has more students and fewer professors, it may not be able to impart the desired education and accordingly students may not get proper learning experience at the institute.   Teacher student ratio therefore also plays an important role in making the education meaningful with good mentorship.

IIM Raipur and IIM Udaipur have 22 core faculty members each whereas IIM Kashipur has 19 core faculty members and 2 mentor faculty at the institute. Going by the profiles of all the faculty members, they have rich and diversified experience as educators and are experts in their respective areas.  The teacher student ratio at IIM Raipur and Udaipur stands to 1:5.5 and is 1:6 at IIM Kashipur. The ratio is better if we compare the same with IIM Trichy, Rohtak and Ranchi where it goes from 1:8 to 1:15.

Fee structure
Fee structure with fewer students and high maintenance is usually high in IIMs. Although with increasing batch size it may remain under control in future, the trend sends the message that the need is to control such expenses and work out proper economics to manage it.

IIM Kashipur has the lowest fee structure with Rs.8.30 lakhs for the 2 years full time management programme out of the above 3 IIMs.   IIM Udaipur proposes to charge Rs.9.20 lakhs while IIM Raipur will have a fee structure of Rs. 9.85 lakhs for batch 2014-16 for the same programme.

Short listing for GDPIWAT
Since the Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission 2014 is being conducted by IIM Trichy (Tiruchirappalli), the short listing criteria for these newer IIMs has remained almost similar. Taking into account the academic profile, work experience, gender diversity, overall and sectional CAT cut off, the short listing weightage remained to 96.82 percentile at IIM Kashipur, Raipur and Udaipur.

Placement
How good is the campus placement record at these IIMs, is probably the most important criteria to choose the most preferred one. It will not only give an idea of future career prospects down the line but will also enable you to calculate the return on investment that you will be making after putting in so much of money and precious 2 years of your life.  All the IIMs have consistent good placement record, its time to find out which had better median placement in 2013 as the placement  in 2014 is still on and the IIMs are yet to release the complete data on final placement 2014.

Placement at  IIM Raipur tops the list with the median placement package of Rs. 11.67 lakhs per annum followed by  IIM Udaipur  with 9.82 lakhs per annum and close on the heels is IIM Kashipur with Rs.9 lakhs per annum. In terms of average placement it is again IIM Raipur with Rs. 12.03 lakhs per annum which stood at Rs.10.12 lakhs at IIM Kashipur.   IIM Udaipur has shared the mean of placement with Rs. 9 lakhs per annum in final placement 2013.

Interestingly, although the median placement package at IIM Udaipur is more than that of IIM Kashipur, the highest annual domestic salary in placement 2013 at IIM Kashipur is Rs. 16.25 lakhs which is much higher than at IIM Udaipur with Rs.14.10 lakhs. IIM Raipur again tops the list with Rs.19 lakhs as highest domestic salary in placement 2013.

Another feature is the lowest placement package which was highest at IIM Raipur with Rs. 6.5 lakhs per annum but IIM Kashipur was not far behind with Rs.6 lakhs followed by IIM Udaipur that remained far behind with Rs.4 lakhs per annum.

Number of Recruiters at IIMs
Recruiters visit for the campus placement in such B schools where they can find the best talent according to their requirement. IIMs are no exception to this idea. Besides, Alumni network also plays an important role in increasing number of recruiters and offers made to the students seeking placement.

All these 3 IIMs had small batch sizes in the range of 35 to 60 students each in placement season 2013 as they were the first or second batches seeking placement.  A few students chose the path of entrepreneurship and other ventures instead of registering for campus placement.  There was however no dearth of good number of recruiters at these B schools in placement season 2013. IIM Raipur witnessed maximum number of 52 recruiters followed by IIM Udaipur with 35 and IIM Kashipur with 32 recruiters in placement season 2013.
