Weightage to academic profile is going to be the key criteria in shortlisting the candidates for final admission round 2015 at IIMs
It will be a good exercise if you can evaluate your profile and cross check its suitability after declaration of results whether it is commensurable with your CAT 2014 scores for the desired IIMs.

IIMs have declared the admission process for their flagship 2 years full time PGP/PGDM programmes 2015-17. Weightage to academic profile is going to be the key criteria in shortlisting the candidates for final admission round 2015 at IIMs.

All the 13 IIMs are going to award different weightage to the applicant’s profile apart from CAT 2014 percentile. However the weightage may improve or deteriorate your chances despite scoring good or very good percentile in CAT 2014.

Since the result of CAT 2014 exam is yet to be declared it will be a good exercise if you can evaluate your profile and cross check its suitability after declaration of results whether it is commensurable with your CAT 2014 scores for the desired IIMs.

IIM Ahmedabad has different criteria

IIM-A the top ranked B school in the country has evolved a different admission criteria. The two-year Post-graduate Programme in Management (PGP) at IIMA is a full-time residential course for graduates from all disciplines wishing to choose a career in management.

While the role of CAT 2014 is very important to explore admission opportunities, the weightage of Academics, work experience, Written Ability and Personal Interview after this computer based written CAT 2014 in final admission round has increased tremendously.

The shortlisting criteria of IIMA for admission 2015-16 also emphasises how important is the role of academics along with the written test.

CAT 2014: High overall percentile is not enough to get into IIMA

According to the admission 2015-16 guidelines issued by IIM Ahmedabad “Performance in CAT is an important input in the admission process. Candidates should note that it is important to perform well in each section of the test.”Individual sectional cut offs based on CAT 2014 scores will be considered for short-listing the candidates for  final admission round at IIMA.

IIMA states “IIMA short-lists candidates for AWT&PI independent of other IIMs. Hence it is possible to observe variations in the lists of candidates short-listed by different IIMs”   In view of this statement, it’s very much clear that  CAT 2014 should not get misled that the short listing criteria and weightage to different components of IIMA would be similar to that of other IIMs.

2 step process

IIMA will have 2 stage admission process after CAT 2014 results are declared to select the candidates for the 2015-17 batch of PGP. In the first step, candidates are short-listed for Academic Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT 2014 score, who have applied for the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme.

Academic profile: very important after CAT 2014 scores

It’s not the CAT 2014 scores only that can take an IIMA aspirant through the process of shortlisting. Candidates with excellent academic profile will get an edge during the shortlisting process.  According to  IIMA admission guidelines “In addition to the performance in CAT, IIMA uses academic background for short-listing for AWT & PI.”

For example 90+ marks in 10th standard will earn you Application rating score of 5; 90+ in 12th will earn 15 and 80+ in bachelor’s degree might earn 25.  Total application rating score will come to a maximum of 45 which can turn the tables in the aspirants’ favour even if he/she scores a little less in CAT 2014.

However please remember for computing AR score of an applicant, scores in all subjects that appear in the marks- sheet of 10th and 12th Std. examinations will be considered irrespective of whether the board/university considers them for calculating the percentage. For bachelor’s degree, the percentage of marks awarded by the institute/university will be treated as final.

On a scale of 100 the weightage to CAT 2014 percentile is 77. If you have scored 81+ percent marks in class X and class XII you will get an additional  weightage of 20 points in shortlisting for final admission round. A 20 point weightage can shine or bleak your chances of admission to this top rated B school.

If you are searching for admission opportunity in IIMC flagship programme for batch 2015-17, evaluate your academic back ground. Please note no points on academic profile will be awarded for shortlisting at IIMC if you have scored less than 60 percent marks in class X and XII.

Academic profile weighs more in Admission Criteria at IIMB

Admission to IIMB is not that easy. CAT is the source entrance test to get admission in IIMB. An aspirant exploring admission opportunities at IIMB should not only score a high sectional as well as overall percentile in CAT, he/she must have an excellent academic profile. A work experience of 2/3 years will be an added advantage to get through the shortlisting.

The shortlisting criteria stated by the B schools says “IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in class X, XII and graduation programs as well as candidates' scores in CAT/GMAT to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP program.”

In shortlisting the candidates for final admission round, candidates' percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose. The weights for the academic excellence are as under

10th board=15, 12th board=10, Bachelors= 15.

Apart from the CAT 2014 scores, work experience or professional courses, the weightage for academic profile as above will be awarded to prepare a pre-PI rank list for calling candidates for the PI. Final selection will be based on the additional PI evaluation components: (a) note content, (b) note style, (c) personal interview, and (d) review of work experience (if any).

In the first shortlist, top 10 candidates in each sectional and total score in CAT, adjusted SSC, HSC, Bachelors, and Professional (CA/ ICWA/ CS), will automatically qualify for PI. These candidates are given a chance to appear for PI due to their exceptional performance on one parameter. However, at the end of final admission round, all such candidates must
merit selection at an identical level of composite aggregate score like any other candidate.

IIMB is the only Indian B-school in GNAM list. IIMB has received international accreditation from EQUIS.  It is the first B-School in Asia to sign an agreement with Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) to distribute faculty teaching cases.
