IIM Indore has announced its admission policy for PGP 2017-19 with 20% weightage proposed for CAT 2016 scores and rest to other parameters
IIM Indore had 90.11 as CAT cut off percentile on which shortlisting was done for PGP 2016 - 18 admission

Not in favour to award high weightage to CAT 2016 scores only, IIM Indore has announced its admission policy for PGP 2017-19 with 20% weightage proposed for CAT 2016 scores and rest to other parameters in shortlisting criteria at the very 1st stage.

Among the older ones, IIM Indore admission announcement on November 23 could be considered a bit late as IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode announced their admission policy for PGP 2017-19 two-three months earlier.

Admission opportunity for 527 candidates
527 candidates can be admitted at IIM Indore & Mumbai campuses for PGP 2017-19 batch. While a good number of 452 candidates will be offered admission at IIM Indore at its Indore campus, 75 students will get admission opportunity at IIM Indore-Mumbai campus.

90 percentile in CAT 2016: Admission chances at IIMI
IIM Indore had 90.11 as CAT cut off percentile on which shortlisting was done for PGP 2016-18 admission.  If you are not expecting a very high percentile in CAT 2016 exam, you need not worry as IIM Indore can shortlist you for PI round if you have 90+ percentile with balanced sectional percentile in CAT 2016. However, you need to have a very good percentage of marks in class 10 the 12 as IIM Indore will award 76% weightage to your academic profile as against only 20% weightage to CAT 2016 scores in shortlisting you for WAT & PI round.

IIM Indore is the 6th IIM in the family of IIMs. Usually it declares the shortlist of candidates for next phase of admission round immediately after declaration of CAT result. It is expected that the 1st stage shortlist of candidates for PI round 2017 will be declared by IIM Indore in the 3rd week of January 2017.

1st Stage Shortlist: Minimum required CAT 2016 score
IIM Indore will shortlist the candidates for next round of admission process comprising Written Ability Test (WAT) and personal Interview (PI) on the basis of scores obtained in CAT 2016 and other parameters.

Although the minimum CAT 2016 percentile prescribed as cut off by IIM Indore is 90, the actual cut off could go beyond 93 or 94 depending upon your academic profile.

Those who have not scored a high balanced percentile in all the 3 sections in CAT 2016 may not expect to be shortlisted by IIM Indore. IIM Indore is the dream B school for MBA aspirants and one of the major USPs is that despite having high placement trends, the admission opportunity in IIM Indore can be explored with moderate CAT 2016 percentile score.

The prescribed minimum CAT 2016 cut off percentile overall as well as sectional shared below indicates only the threshold limit below which IIM Indore will not consider the candidates for admission to its flagship PGP Programme 2017-19. Apart from this the candidate with slightly low percentile but excellent academic record will be preferred to be shortlisted to the candidate with high percentile but average academic profile.

76% weight to Class 10 & 12 scores
Candidates will be shortlisted for WAT & PI stage on the basis of composite scores which will be arrived at by accounting for the academic profile alsoThe Composite Score therefore is calculated on the basis of CAT 2016 score, academic scores, and gender diversity.

Components

Weightage formula

10th Standard/SSC score

36* [zcandidate-zmin]
       [zmax – zmin]

12th standard/HSC score

40* [zcandidate-zmin]
       [zmax – zmin]

There will not be any weightage to the academic scores beyond class 12. In fact candidates scoring percentage of marks above 85 can get a good weightage in the computation of composite scores.

20% Weight to CAT 2016 score
Weightage to your CAT 2016 scores will be computed as follows-
20* [candidate’s CAT overall score / highest CAT overall score]

4% Weight to Female candidates
IIM Indore will award a weightage of 4% to female candidates only to ensure gender diversity while shortlisting the candidates for PI stage. No weightage to male or transgender candidates will be awarded.
The computation is as follows: Gender Diversity Factor (GDF)
= 4 for Female Applicants
= 0 for Other Applicants

How to calculate your composite score
Composite Score = Sum of the above scores (Max 100) is the formula to arrive at the maximum score.  Please note that  Zcandidate, Zmin, Zmax for 10th and 12th Standard are computed using the normalisation process.

Please also note that after declaration of shortlist, IIM Indore will not send any individual regret letter to applicants who are not shortlisted for WAT and PI.

4500 CAT 2016 test takers to be shortlisted
For PGP batch 2017-18 in the admission year 2017, IIM Indore will shortlist the candidates around 10 times of its approved intake. As such around 4500 candidates for IIM Indore and Mumbai campuses are expected to be shortlisted for final admission round by IIM Indore.

CAT 2016 scores: Losing prominence
It is expected that CAT 2016 scores would not play the major role in the revised admission policy for PGP 2017-19. The cut off CAT 2016 percentile in the shortlisting of candidates, even if it goes high at IIM Indore can be caught up with excellent academic scores.

Shortlisting the candidates is not based only on CAT 2016 scores.  Apart from CAT 2016 scores a candidate is required have excellent academic profile to get shortlisted for final admission round at IIM Indore.

Highest weight to academics announced among IIMs
With a view to increase academic excellence in its class rooms, IIM Indore has announced award of higher weightage to excellent academic profile than to CAT 2016 scores. There will be a diversified weightage to class 10 and class 12 marks in the Admission Policy for PGP 2017-19 batch. While the maximum weightage of 36 points will be awarded to the Class 10 marks the weightage to class 12 marks will be 40 percent on a scale of 100. Interestingly no weightage will be awarded to the excellent academic profile in graduation.

IIM Indore has announced highest weightage for academic excellence in calculating the composite scores to shortlist the candidates for 2nd  stage of admission round.

No Weightage to Non-Engineers
Unlike IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow who have announced different weightage for diversified academics, IIM Indore has not discriminated on academic diversity while awarding weightage to academic profile. There is no extra or bonus weightage for candidates coming from non-engineering back ground. Nor it awards any additional weightage to high scores in graduation.

38% Female students in IIM Indore class rooms
IIM Indore probably has the highest ratio of female students in its class rooms. The current PGP 2016-18 batch has 173 girl candidates out of total 452 students.
