Topic: Draft National Education Policy: A gamechanger for Management Education?

There is a dire need to deliberate upon implications of the Draft New Education Policy on Management Education. One of the key proposals is the proposed categorisation of higher education institutions into three categories viz. (i) Research Universities, (ii) Teaching & Research Universities & (iii) Under-graduate Colleges. It will lead to a churn in management education. Draft NEP also proposes that 40,000 UG and PG colleges in India will be consolidated into around 12,000 institutions. Affiliated colleges will be discontinued by 2024. All the three kinds of institutions will have degree granting powers. Another radical recommendation is replacement of single faculty institutions into multi faculty institutions. Does it mean that affiliated MBA programmes will be banished, and every management institute will become ‘multi-faculty institute’ with degree granting power? Eminent Higher Education Experts will discuss these and other challenges and opportunities emerging from Draft NEP at this session.
