Dr. Furqan Qamar is the Former Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) where he played the key role of the principal executive officer of the largest and one of the oldest networks of universities.

Dr Qamar has also been an Advisor (Education) in the Planning Commission of India and was responsible for many policy initiatives in higher education for the country. He has chaired and has been member of a large number of committees, working groups at the national and international level. After completing his tenure at AIU, he has joined back the Centre for management Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia Central University as Professor of Management Studies.

Dr Qamar has also served as the Vice Chancellor of University of Rajasthan and the first Vice Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Dr Qamar has keen research interest in public policy, planning, administration and financing of higher education and has published in journals of repute. An outstanding scholar throughout, Dr. Qamar obtained Ph.D. and did Masters from the University of Lucknow.
