Following the trend of the IIM students, IIM Ranchi, one of the new IIM which started functioning since last year have launched their mentorship program for the 1422 candidates shortlisted by IIM Ranchi to appear in the GD PI process. The initiative taken by the IIM Ranchi students is called IIM Ranchi Mentorship Program 2011-13.

Unlike other IIM mentorship programs, the IIM Ranchi call getter do not have to register themselves but can directly be in touch with the student mentors through the email id [email protected]. All the 44 students of the 2010-12 batch of IIM Ranchi will be mentoring the MBA aspirants. “We don’t want somebody missing out on the mentorship program just because he couldn't register on time. Instead we have sent out individual mails to each and every student in the shortlist directly kicking off the Mentorship Program,” mentions Akash Gaurav, student of IIM Ranchi.

The ratio of IIM Ranchi mentor and mentee is about 33 mentee per student mentor. The mentors have been assigned on the basis of the profiles. “For each of the mentees, the mentors are a perfect fit. Its been a few days since we have kicked off the initiative and the phones haven’t stopped ringing since. Many of the mentees have also thanked us for the initiative,” exclaims Akash.

Sharing the plans of mentorship, Akash says that the IIM Ranchi students will send the mentees study packs which will help them prepare for the GD and PI. The students would also visit the centers of the GD PI so that they can help the aspirants by giving them last minute suggestions, motivating them as well as to help the faculty members and panelists to organize the process smoothly.

For the IIM Ranchi aspirants, Akash mentions that there is a wide gap between getting shortlisted and finally converting the call.” Especially in the past few years, all the top colleges are more interested in what you have to offer rather just their CAT scores. The only way you can convince the panelists are through your GD PI,” he says.
