We may allow one more opportunity to aspirants to apply for our institute once the CAT results are declared: Dr Pritam Singh, director-general, IMI
International Management Institute (IMI) has said it may reopen its admission registration process once the CAT results are declared. The institute, however, said from the next year onwards, the process will be closed in one go.
Talking to MBAUniverse.com, Dr Pritam Singh, director-general, IMI, said: “This year, we may allow one more opportunity to aspirants to apply for our institute once the CAT results are out.”

According to the institute, the total number of applications received this year has increased by 35 per cent. According to Dr Singh, IMI has so far received around 10,000 applications. He said, “Given an opportunity, many candidates are likely to apply for the institute once the CAT results are out in the second week of January.”

The number of seats against the number of candidates applying is one of the core parameters considered by different ranking agencies to decide the ‘Input’ quality of different B-schools.

With the management education scenario getting tougher and more competitive, many top B-schools either stretch their admission process or re-open the same to attract more applications post-CAT results.

Though Dr Singh agreed that an increased number of applications helps an institute get a better ranking, he said the re-opening of the admission process will not be allowed from the next year. This measure, according to him, will help streamline the process better.

IMI had announced the admission for its PGDM programme in the Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata campuses and PGDHRM for the Delhi campus.  The last date to apply for the IMI Delhi campus was October 9, 2012.
While the New Delhi and Kolkata campuses admit 120 students each, the Bhubaneswar campus has a capacity of 60 seats.

The eligibility criteria for candidates included 50 per cent or equivalent CGPA marks in graduation from any AIU-approved university. Candidates appearing for their final examination in 2013 were required to make their results available by September 28, 2013. The application fee was Rs 1,500 + Rs 500 per program for each campus.

The admission to the institute is based on CAT or GMAT scores. The academic performance in graduation, Class X & XII is also considered while shortlisting candidates. The final selection is made on the combined evaluation of past academic performance, work experience, psychometric test, essay writing, extempore and personal interview.
