Anna University, Chennai will conduct Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) 2017 on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The exam will offer admission opprotunity MBA; M.C.A; and ME/MTech/MArch./M.Plan. Degree Programmes for the year 2017 – 2018 offered at University Departments, University Colleges of Engineering, Regional Campuses of Anna University, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, Arts & Science Colleges and Self-financing Colleges (Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges including standalone Institutions) in Tamil Nadu.

Some Universities and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges may also opt to admit the candidates on the basis of marks obtained in TANCET 2017. Other State candidates can appear for the entrance test, but the eligibility conditions will be fixed by the admitting authority/University.

The procedure for seeking admission to MBA, MCA and M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Degree programmes for the academic year 2017-2018 consists of 2 steps:

1. Appearing for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) 2017 in March 2017.
2. Applying for admission to the admitting authorities concerned.

Students are advised to look for separate advertisements to be released by the admitting authorities for admission.

TANCET Eligibility & Application Process
Eligibility
A pass in a recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination.

Candidates appearing for the final semester / year of examination of the said qualifying degree course except courses offered by Professional Institution’s (like AMIE) during April/May 2017 may also apply for TANCET 2017.

Other State Candidates can also appear for the entrance test, but the eligibility conditions will be stipulated by the admitting authority / University.

The candidate must have done at least one of the following to be eligible for TANCET-
- Bachelor’s Degree in 10+2+3 years pattern
- 10+3 years Diploma +3 years pattern
- B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Pharm
- 10+2+AMIE or 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE.
Application Process
Candidates can register through online only by filling-up the application and uploading the same along with a good quality recently taken photograph. The application form is available at www.annauniv.edu/tancet2017.

The Candidates have to pay Rs.500/- (` 250/- for SC /SCA /ST candidates) towards the entrance test fee for any one of the programmes e.g. M.B.A. (or) 2. M.C.A. (or) 3.M.E/M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan programmes.

A candidate applying for more than one programme has to pay Rs.500/- (250/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamilnadu) for each additional programme through online mode only...Read more

Issue of Admit Card (Hall Ticket)
Admit card (Hall tickets) should be downloaded from the Anna University website. The Registration Number assigned in the Hall Ticket should be entered at the appropriate place in the admission application form to be filed with the respective admitting authority later.

Hall Ticket should be produced at the time of Entrance Test and also at the time of Admission.

If the hall ticket is lost after the test, a duplicate hall ticket can be obtained on payment of Rs. 100/- in the form of a Demand Draft, with a written request to The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University, Chennai – 600 025, indicating the Registration No. / Application No. and the name of the Examination Centre.

An enquiry Centre for Entrance Examinations will function at Anna University, Chennai on March 23 and 24, 2017 from 10 A.M. to 5.00 PM.

TANCET Exam Pattern & Mock Test
TANCET 2017 will be a paper pen based exam. The test for admission to MBA programmes will consist of 100 questions in MCQ format with maximum score of 100 marks. The test paper has to be solved in 2 hours from 2.30PM to 4.30 PM. Each question will be followed by 4 alternate answer options. Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark and each wrong answer will carry 1/3 negative marking.

The candidate has to choose the correct answer and shade the corresponding small open box provided for that question in the answer sheet with a black ball point pen only. If more than one open box is shaded for any question, then it will be treated as wrong answer and 1/3 mark will be deducted as negative marking.

TANCET Exam Syllabus
TANCET MBA question paper will have sections to-
i) Evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify critically the data and apply the data to business decisions from given typical business situations
ii) Evaluate the skill of the candidate in answering questions based on the passages in the comprehension
iii) Evaluate the skill on solving mathematical problems at graduate level including those learnt in plus two or equivalent level
iv) Test on determining data sufficiency for answering certain questions using the given data and the knowledge of mathematics and use of day-to-day facts
v) Test the knowledge on written English with questions on errors in usage, grammar, punctuation and the like.

TANCET Exam Analysis
TANCET is designed to analyze the Quantitative, Qualitative and analytical ability along with Reasoning, Verbal Ability and candidate’s aptitude. The Paper consists of 100 questions. There are total 100 questions from different sections to check candidates’ ability in 5 sections on Data analysis; Data sufficiency; Reading Comprehension; Quantitative Aptitude; General English.

The duration of the exam is 2 hrs. Each question carries 1 mark. Questions on following topics were prominently asked in last year TANCET.
Broad sectional analysis-
Verbal Ability: Synonyms, One word Substitutions, Proverbs, Phrasal words, Reading Comprehension, Close Test, Basic Grammar.
Data Interpretation: Bar Graph, Line Graph, Pie Chart, Histogram, Problem Based & Percentage, Problem based on equivalence.
Quantitative Aptitude: Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Trigonometry, Permutation and Combination, Statistics & Probability.
Logical Reasoning: Syllogism, Blood Relation Analogy, Coding Decoding, Direction Sitting Arrangement, Series, Water and mirror images, Punch lines.
TANCET Exam Result
TANCET 2017 result is proposed to be declared in the month of May/June 2017. The result will be released online on the Anna University website. A direct link ‘Check the TANCET 2017 result’ will be enabled. To check TANCET 2017 result, candidate will need to login with their registered id & password/date of birth at the link.

Mark sheets shall be downloaded from the website by the candidates within 10 days from the date of publication of results of the entrance test. The mark sheet should be produced at the time of admission. If the mark sheet is lost, a duplicate mark sheet can be obtained on payment of Rs. 100/- in the form of a Demand Draft, with a written request to The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University, Chennai – 600 025.

Evaluation Scheme
The answer sheets shaded in pencils will not be evaluated. The shaded information is scanned and the details are transferred to computer for evaluation. Even a small stray of Pen mark on the sheet will be captured by the scanner which may result in wrong evaluation. TANCET 2017 exam scores will be accepted by –
1. University Departments of Anna University, Chennai – 25, Anna University Regional Campuses and University Colleges.
