So you want to bell the CAT, this November, and enter into the prestigious B-schools like IIMs, JBIMS, XLRI and MDI? But you have several questions about entrance test preparations and life at B-School?

Who better to answer these questions than the CAT toppers themselves, who are now studying at top B-school!

India’s leading management portal MBAUniverse.com presents a new series ‘Road to CAT 2008’ which will guide and inspire CAT aspirants at every stage. In this series, begin with a chat with students from top B-schools on their journey, and life at B-school.

The B-school students that we interviewed for this series are from institutes like IIM-B, IIM-I, IIM-K, JBIMS, FMS Delhi and IIT Bombay’s SJMSOM.

To kick-start this series, we present a chat with Mamta Kanthuria, student of IIM-B’s Post Graduate Programme, where she shares with MBAUniverse.com her experience while into IIM-B, and campus life.

Q- What is the importance of 'preparation' for a candidate wanting to crack management entrance exams like CAT, XAT and others?

A- Preparation is extremely important for examinations like CAT, XAT etc. especially for those who do not have anybody to guide them in their family for such examinations. The tests and materials that are given during such coaching periods are very helpful in building the right kind of aptitude.

Q- How did you prepare for CAT, XAT and other exams?

A- I joined a coaching institute and meticulously followed all the instructions that my mentors used to give. Apart from this, I was very regular in practice and wrote at least one mock test every alternate day and completely analyzed it next day.

Q- Did you enrol into a coaching or test-prep institute? How did it help?

A- Yes, it helped through mock tests and a few techniques for quick calculations.

Q- How should an aspirant choose the right test-prep institute?

A- The material that coaching institutes provide students with is almost similar across classes. The difference lies in mentorship. This not only includes the teaching but also further requirements like GD and PI. The mentors should be good enough to steer the student through guidance and practice.

Q- How is life in a top B-school? What are the highs and lows!

A- Highs are definitely the attractive salary packages and luxurious life post MBA. Lows have to stay awake all throughout night and completing your assignments, on an almost ‘daily’ basis!

Road to CAT ’08 special series will continue on India’s leading management portal – MBAUniverse.com. Stay tuned to read more Chats with MBAs, expert admission advice from B-school Directors and from top test-prep experts.
