Two of the top Management Institutes in the country came together in a clash of the titans – this one not in the boardroom but rather on the sports field.

Samhar, the annual sports meet between IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta was held on August 10, with IIM Bangalore winning 15 out of the 17 events.

More than 90 students from IIM-C had traveled to Bangalore to participate in Samhar. The meet kicked off on Friday with Throwball (Girls), an event that never fails to draw large crowds. IIM-B won it in straight sets and then went on to win Volleyball that was much more closely contested.

The second day of Samhar saw IIM-B nearly wrapping up the entire tournament, winning 6 of the 7 events played. Notable events for the day included Badminton and Cricket. Badminton (Men) was a huge hit with the audience for the sheer expertise shown by the IIM-B team that comprised two national level players. Badminton (Girls) was the last event of the day and the IIM-C victory denied IIMB the overall victory on Saturday. The score at the end of the day read 8-1.

Sunday started off with the swimming events and after a spectacular performance by the IIM-B swimming team, not surprising considering that the team had an Arjuna award winner who also holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records, swimming proved to be the “clincher”, giving IIM-B an unsurpassable 9-1 lead in the tournament. IIM-C won their second event of the tournament with Snooker where they clearly demonstrated their superiority. In athletics, the IIM-B athletes came out victorious in all 8 sub-events. The final score at the end of the meet stands at 15-2. This is the biggest ever margin by which IIMB has beat IIMC in the last 8 years, says IIM-B.
