The Gurgaon-based Management Development Institute (MDI) organized its convocation for the 399 graduates from the batch of 2007 on 6th March.

The ceremony was presided by Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani, who shared his personal experiences of the Infosys success story with the outgoing students.

Addressing the convocation Nilekani said, “India today is booming with opportunities… as young graduates, you can participate in the unprecedented era of economic growth. My advice is take the bold step: grab the bull by its horns.”

Other than Nilekani, N K Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors, MDI, and Sujit K Basu, Director, MDI also shared their mantras with the students. While congratulating the students -- who received diplomas and laurels during the convocation -- Dr Basu said: “I also want to remind the students that we, at the institute, eagerly await their fulfilling the needs of the nation, with the skills and knowledge they have acquired through the efforts of my colleagues here.”

Here’s a break-up of the 399 students graduating from MDI this year: 128 were from the 12th batch of its two-year full-time postgraduate program in management (PGPM); 32 belonged to the 2nd batch of its postgraduate program in human resource management (PGP-HRM); 121 were from its executive post graduate program in management (EPGPM); 63 were from the eighth batch of its Consortium Post-Graduate Program (PGPM or NMP); 6 from the third batch of its Doctoral Program (Fellow Program in Management); and 49 from the first batch of its Postgraduate Energy Management (PGPEM) program.

Dr Basu further added: “At this time when India is well poised for growth, when the horizon has just started brightening up and when the entire world is looking for fresh leadership, we optimistically and proudly look upon you in your roles as the change agents who will fill the void.”

Nilekani was impressed with the talent churned out by MDI: “I am glad to be at this convocation ceremony. Over the years, MDI has rapidly grown to emerge as a premier business school in India. I have interacted with several MDI graduates over the last many years, and I can personally vouch for the quality of talent that MDI produces – it’s top class,” he said.
