The business world needs rules and regulations, effective implementation of these rules and an ethical behavior to avoid getting to into global crisis like the one world is currently facing, as a fallout of the American financial crisis.

That's the message coming from Professor Jean-Pierre Lehmann, Professor of International Political Economy, IMD Lausanne, Switzerland & Founding Director of the Evian Group while he addressed a group of business executives gathered at the seminar organized by NIIT Imperia.

Said Prof Lehmann, "Business World cannot function with rules and regulation and effective implementation of the same. It cannot be a wild west! The global governance systems have failed us leading to this crisis. Also, ethical behavior by corporate is important. Ethics should guide the behavior, not greed and profit motives alone."

NIIT Imperia - Center for Advanced Learning, the specialized institute for providing management education to working professionals, held a seminar on 'The Global Crisis: Prospects for Globalisation & Implications for India' on December 16, 2008. It was delivered live through the interactive Imperia platform to the NIIT Imperia centers across the country.

Commenting on India's role in the global world, Prof Lehmann said, "Today the world is dominated by America and China. India, Brazil and a few other countries are up there on the global map. India can play an increasingly important role in the world business and political order, especially since it's a vibrant democracy."

Advising business executive to watch out for 'Black Swan' phenomenon, Prof Lehmann said, "Its no point looking at the world only with one point of view. You need to watch out for 'Black Swans' which are basically trends that you never thought will come about. Like rise of GOOGLE, or consolidation of global steel industry by MITTAL Steels. These new trends create massive opportunities for companies and individuals who can spot them."
