Prashant Kumar of IIT Delhi did well in CAT 08 to get calls from prestigious IIM Bangalore and IIM Lucknow. MBAUniverse.com spoke to Prashant to know his take on his performance and road ahead.

Q: What is your percentile in CAT '08 and how does it feel getting call from prestigious IIMs!
A: My percentile in CAT is 97.67 and I am really excited about the opportunity it has given me to be a part of prestigious B-Schools. I have received interview calls from IIM Bangalore and IIM Lucknow.

Q: In your view, what are the key factors that helped you in doing so well in CAT?
A: I focused on three points:
1. Working on my strengths. For example coming from engineering background, I knew that getting a 99+ percentile in Quant section is achievable.
2. Keeping a disciplined and active daily routine.
3. Preparing for the CAT by solving questions rather than stressing on the theory.

Q: How did you prepare for CAT '08?
A: I have partly answered the question in the answer above. Apart from that, I tried to keep my strategies simple by gaining confidence from each test that went well and drawing lessons from not so good ones.

Q: Now, how are you preparing for next round of GD and PI?
A:  I have started reading major business newspapers for updates and insights. This will help me both in GD and PI.

Q: What do you think about the role of the coaching institutes for MBA test preparations?
A: Coaching institute help in a disciplined preparation which is essential. Rest is up to the candidate.

Q: For the aspirants who will take CAT 09, what would be your advice to crack CAT?
1. Keep the preparation as simple as possible.
2. Give regular mock tests at the time CAT is scheduled i.e. from 10.30 AM to 1 PM.
3. Analyse the mock tests rigorously.
