Everyone needs a good dose of motivation and inspiration, irrespective of whether you are a famous sportsperson or a budding manager. SCMS Cochin seemed to have got that, which is why it had invited Mr. Vipin Roldant, a renowned Consultant Corporate Psychologist and Performance Coach for an interaction session with its students on the 7th of April. He facilitated a motivational session for the students of PGDM 24 and left them invigorated by the end of it.

Mr. Roldant’s past assignments include a consultancy package for Real Madrid FC, one of the most famous football clubs on the planet. He has also been the Behavioral Coach for the CII, IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders and Kerala State Sports team. Given the profile of the highly sought after motivational speaker, there was a lot of anticipation amongst the students about the session. And to their delight he did not disappoint.

The experienced speaker made an instant mark with the students by addressing them as “Future CEOs” of companies. He also enlightened them about “Mind Secrets – You are better than you think” before going on to say, “Good word to someone brings good to you through biological activities like releasing Serotonin when appreciating others, Dopamine on smiling to others, endorphin while encouraging, and oxytocin while giving gifts to others.”

There were many such revelations for students during the session that also had Mr. Roldant talking about Performance Pyramid. He explained its three levels – basic skills, which can be improved by focusing on goals, motivation and commitment, preparatory skills that can be improved by sharpening mental imagery, self talk and people skills, and performance skills that can be enhanced by sharpening concentration, managing emotions and anxiety.

Mr. Roldant then went on to reveal the theory of Psychological reversals before inspiring students further by saying, “If you can really sharpen your basic skills, you can excel in your roles. But to accelerate your dreams, you also need to encourage others, so automatically, whatever goals you have, you will achieve them.” It was an interesting perspective that the students were keen to take on board.

The session, which had Mr. Roldant quoting Murphy, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, James Williams, Alfred A Montepart, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam had many such interesting point of views for students to mull over. They were also fascinated to hear the speaker say, “Brain is hardware, Mind is software. Conscious 10% works when we are awake, and the rest of subconscious 90% works all through the 24 hours.”

The motivational talk that had many important takeaways for the students in the gathering was coming to an end. But not before they had an opportunity to interact with the engaging personality that Mr. Roldant is. He concluded the session with a final spurt of inspiration. “If you can continuously visualize, your dream will actualize, and for this you need to reprogram.” Now that was a message future managers of the institute could do well remembering.
