MBAUniverse.com spoke with XIMB Director Father P T Joseph to know what XIMB looks for in a potential student and the details of the admission criteria & process for admissions 2011-13.

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, popularly called XIMB, is amongst the top 10 B-schools of India. The admissions to the B-school are done on the basis of XAT test scores. The XAT 2011 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 2nd January 2011 at various test centres across India. Thousands of MBA aspirants are going to take XAT for gaining entry to top B-schools like XIMB and XLRI.

But all XAT takers and XIMB aspirants should take note of the fact that when a B-School selects its students, they are not selected on the basis of just the MBA entrance exam score, but there are several other factors which B-schools look for in a candidate. A 100 percentile score will not guarantee an admission.

MBAUniverse.com spoke with XIMB Director Father P T Joseph to know what XIMB looks for in a potential student and the details of the admission criteria & process for admissions 2011-13.

Explaining the criteria and the process for admissions, Fr. Joseph informed MBAUniverse.com, “The first stage in the process of assessment of candidates is the Xavier Admission Test (XAT) score that a student obtains after appearing in the entrance examination. Based on the XAT score, the student is shortlisted for the group discussion and personal interview.”

“The minimum cut off percentile for shortlisting the candidates for GD-PI for admissions 2011 will be around 98 percentile. Post the GD PI, students will be selected on the basis of the scores obtained in GD, PI and the measured score given to their previous academic performance and relevance of work experience,” added Fr. Joseph. XIMB does not disclose the weightage given to these factors.

He further mentioned, “During the group discussion stage the articulation, confidence and team engagement skills are noted. In the succeeding personal interview process, the aspirant’s conceptual clarity, technical understanding based on his/her area of graduation, leadership qualities, body language, communication skills and attitude is noted. The assessment process also includes past academic excellence record and work experience, if any.”

On the qualities that XIMB looks for in the candidates Fr. Joseph said, “In a potential student, the institute looks for leadership qualities, presence of emotional intelligence, team player traits, positive mental attitude and a strong commitment to people and task orientation. Apart from these areas, the analytical and logical skills of the student are extremely important along with their desire for social commitment and strong ethical values.”

“An embodiment of all these traits and qualities is looked at by XIMB in a potential student,” he concluded.
