Distance MBA: For the masses as well as classes
Unlike most regular in-class MBA courses, programs offered through distance learning are generally affordable and cost-effective. Distance learning eliminates the costs incurred on infrastructure, travelling and a variety of other peripheral expenses otherwise incurred by 'full-time' or 'regular MBA program' students.
Distance MBA also provides a golden opportunity to the students living in remote areas to obtain MBA education from renowned management Institutes. The biggest advantage of distance learning programs is the extent of learning flexibility one can get from these programs. Students can review their study materials at their own pace and have an all-round experience in terms of their social and professional perspectives with wide usage of Computer application as well.
The Challenges
Despite, the benefits that Education Technology offers to Distance MBA Education, there are number of hurdles and challenges that are faced by institutes offering Distance MBA. There are many colleges in India that offer Distance MBA, but very few have received the recognition that they deserve. More better use of education technology can bridge the gap that exists between full time MBA and distance MBA.
The success of Distance MBA entirely depends on how well an institute leverages ‘Education Technology’. There is lack of awareness about the e-Learning mode of teaching among many institutes. The institutes adopting Distance MBA should offer Technical & pedagogical training to the instructors. Infact, the instructors should also rethink & restructure the e-Learning classes. Many a times, bad internet connectivity in remote areas can create problem in the smooth delivery of Distance MBA programs, hence efficiency of operations should also be improved.
All these challenges will be discussed at ‘The Game Changer’ conference on March 4, 2011. The theme of the conference is 'Leveraging Education Technology in MBA Education'.
