We bring to you the Excerpts from the Live Expert Chat:

Q. Ankush: Sir, How can I judge that a B-school is good on its placements and academics? What are the important factors for judging the quality of a B-school? Please guide me.

A. Dear Aspirant, there are number of parameters that one must consider before joining a B-School, the prominent ones are: 1. Faculty resource 2. Placement records 3. Pedagogy 4. Industry interface 5. Vision and mission of the institute 6. Batch composition and mix 7. Recognition of the course, degree, diploma, certificate etc. 8. Alumni network. It is always advised to visit your shortlisted institute and talk to students, faculty etc on campus.

Q. Vikram Vishal: Sir, I am Engineer from Mechanical branch. I have good CAT, MAT score. Which is the best MBA specialization for me and anything specific for me?
A. After doing engineering from mechanical branch, you can either go for a core MBA and you can opt for specialization in second year, it basically depends on your interest and caliber. For example if you are good at handling people, psychology etc. HR is suitable for you. If you are good with numbers and like data crunching a specialization in finance will be good for you and so on.

Q. Sonal Jain: I have secured 78 out of 200 in MH-CET with 84.12 percentile and home university is Pune. Which all colleges can I apply through MH-CET CAP round?
A. Dear Sonal. You don’t have to apply for colleges right now. First you have to appear for GD / PI and your cumulative percentile will be used for CAP round. Anyways you stand a decent chance for PUMBA give a good performance in GD / PI.

All the best!
Q. UJWAL HEGDE: A large number of management institutes boast of a 100% placement record for their students. With management institutes mushrooming .. how we can find out these thing ?

A. Unfortunately so far not a single b-school in India (not even the top 10) have used any of the reputed auditing firms to get their placement records independently audited, verified and certified (at least I am not aware of any such precedent). So, there is no 100% foolproof method of checking if a B-school is actually telling the truth or not. Still, you can compare the records shown across various rankings and speak to the pass-outs of the b-school(s) to verify the claims broadly. Remember that in many sectors, the training cost upon joining is also added to the gross cost to company package and hence you must be careful in discounting that.
