Getting admitted into IIM Bangalore is a dream come true for many students, but along with a sense of relief and pride, students in the incoming batch often feel stressed and nervous. The beautiful, verdant campus and the serene architecture helps tune out these worries, but we will try and address some of them in this article.

Dos and Don’ts
A common reason for worry in incoming students is the fear that they will be in such accomplished company that they won’t be able to keep up. This is simply not true. Everyone is in the same position and there is no reason at all to get overwhelmed. It is very important to keep faith in yourself and your abilities.

Everyone in IIM Bangalore has strengths that can get them everything they want out of life, and if they make the most out of the opportunity they’re getting, they can access the resources needed for their dreams to be realized. IIM Bangalore has relative grading, but students should realize that in the end they are competing only against themselves, since each of them has the ability to make an incredible impact on our country, society and economy. The challenge before them is to utilize the possibilities the institute opens up to reach their own potential in their own way.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that people you get to know in these two years, friends you make, will add value to you your entire life. When we enter a new place and are faced with six hundred strangers it’s understandable to feel shy. Moreover, there will always be reasons to be a bit suspicious and judgemental about strangers. However, it really pays off to just approach people with a generous, open mind and try to actually get to know them and make friends. It is one of the most valuable opportunities in IIMB – the chance to get to know a great set of people.

Lastly, many of us will find the subjects taught, and the culture at a B-School a bit alien. A lot of IIM students are engineers and will find the soft side of subjects to be frustratingly vague, with no sense of a ‘right’ answer. However, being flexible, curious and again, having an open-mind can really help enjoy the experience at the institute. There has been a lot of interesting and important work done in many, many fields outside the pure quantitative, and respecting that can help utilize the holistic experience IIM Bangalore provides.

Practical tips
-- There are convenience stores on campus for most items.
-- Formal clothes will be required from time to time for certain classes.
-- For students with work experience, getting recommendations with verification of resume points will save time later.

Unique feature of campus
The unique feature of the campus lies in the dignity and serenity of the campus, in both its architecture and greenery. The ‘night-life’ – IIM Bangalore never sleeps, and you will find people hanging out (and sometimes working) at all points in the night.
