Q: Manish: I have been scoring around 85 percentile in my mocks. So what are my chances in CAT 2011? Sir please guide me for the remaining two months.

A: You need to pull up your socks. Though you generally score higher in CAT as compared to what you score in Mocks, 85 percentile will still not be enough to get you in top B-schools. Practice the new format adequately. Analyze the Mocks and see where you are lacking. Go back to the basics if required.

Q: Pratibha: Sir what is the right date to take CAT 2011?

A: I don't think the date would be that important. Take a date when you are most comfortable and best prepared. Try to keep a distance between CAT appointment and any other exam, social commitment, festival etc.

Q: Arnav: I am a B. Tech and going to take CAT and XAT. I am taking tuition classes of 10th and 12 students for math so my quant is good and for verbal I prepare by self. I haven't taken mocks yet. What should be my strategy?

A: You won't know if your Quant is good or not without taking simulated mock tests. Join a test series immediately. Then think of a strategy based on your performance in the mocks. You don't take a medicine without knowing the disease.

Q: Sourabh: What should I do in last two month to score above 98 percentile as presently I am scoring around 90 in mocks?

A: Analyze the tests already taken by you and find out where you missed out. Plug those holes and don't make similar mistakes. The scores are bound to go up.

Q: Dhiyani: Sir I am aiming only FMS Delhi and I'm confident about getting a call. What is the similarity between CAT and FMS? Should I take CAT also for practicing?

A: The similarity is like that between Shah Rukh Khan and Anna Hazare. Both are human beings. The only similarity between CAT and FMS is that both are aptitude tests.

Q: Sourabh: What should I do to improve my accuracy which is 70 per cent? However my overall percentile in mock tests is around 90.

A: Analyze the questions that you have been getting wrong. See if there is a pattern. Try avoiding the type which gives you maximum negative scores.

Q: Rohthaswa: Sir as my more or less preparation is complete, now what is the important topic which needs extra attention? Please suggest how I can improve more on LR section?

A: Every topic is important. If you want to do something extra, do a lot of reading in the last few months. For LR, solve a lot of puzzles.

Q: Dinesh: Sir during the preparation I'm very confident but when I take full length mocks, result show me very disappointing result. What should be the next step for next two months?

A: At the cost of sounding repetitive, I will say analyze the tests thoroughly. Were there any questions that you could have done and got correct but you left or got incorrect because of pressure? Find this out and don't repeat your mistakes.

Q: Neelam: Sir what will be the level of LR and DI as these are combined with Quant and verbal?

A: Shouldn't be too different from what has been offered in the last few years in CAT. At least we don't have any reason to believe that it would be different because of two-section pattern.
