With just 27 days left for the test phase to begin, MBAUniverse.com spoke to the Admissions Chairperson of NMIMS to find answers to important queries.
NMAT 2012, the computer based MBA entrance exam for admissions to the various campuses of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), a deemed university, will be held in a two month test window from October 31, 2011 to January 6, 2012.

The first stage of registration process for the entrance exam is currently underway, and will end on Monday, 10 October 2011. The Late Registration window will open from Tuesday, October 11, 2011 to Thursday, October 20, 2011.

Just like NMAT 2011, NMAT 2012 can also be taken in three attempts -- one original attempt and two retakes -- and the best of the three scores will be considered by NMIMS for the GD PI shortlisting process.

Q. What is the difficulty level of NMAT exam compared to CAT?

A. Difficulty level of NMAT exam is the same as that of CAT.

Q. Is there any sectional cut off in NMAT and does it have GK also?

A. Yes there is sectional cut off and it will be considered for preparation of the final merit list.

Q. Do people with Maharashtra domicile have some sort of reservation?

A. No reservation for people with Maharashtra domicile

Q. When should we take the test? Any specific date, timing?

A. The Test can be taken on any date between 30th October 2011 to 6th of Jan 2011.

Q. Please tell me what is the cut off for NMIMS Mumbai campus flagship MBA programme and what other activities follow the score?

A. For the year 2011 for FT MBA programs- MBA core, MBA Banking, MBA Capital markets, MBA Actuarial Science and MBA HR for Mumbai Campus

Q. How much time one should give for NMAT preparation before the exam? How is NMAT prep different from CAT Exam?

A: About 2 months is good enough time to devote for preparation. There are 3 sections- Quantitative ability, Logical reasoning and verbal ability. Reading comprehension is included in VA. NMAT till last year had 120 questions divided over these 3 sections, whereas CAT had 60 questions. The course for the exam is almost the same.

Q. Please share paper attempting tips and how many questions are required to clear cut off for flagship program of NMIMS Mumbai?

A: Prepare the important topics well. These are the topics which reappear every year in the sample NMAT papers. Apart from that, just be confident and calm during the paper. And sleep well the night before. All the best!

Q. My weak area is DI. How can I improve it? I know I cannot improve drastically! What do I need to do extra for NMAT 2012?

A. Practice more DI cases. I am sure you will gradually improve with more practice. Concentrate more on your strong sections.

Q. Please tell me how I can further improve Quant?

A. Please practice the areas you feel you are weak in. You will find plenty of sample papers online.

Q. What is the level of verbal ability?

A. Verbal ability has all levels of questions ranging from very easy to a few difficult ones.
