The International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi, has become the fifth B-school in India to get accreditation from globally renowned accreditation agency AMBA – Association of MBAs.

Other Indian B-schools with AMBA accreditation are IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, MDI Gurgaon and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR).

The institute received an official confirmation on the same last week. Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Dr Pritam Singh, director general, IMI, said, “We received the official AMBA accreditation letter on Friday, September 7.”

The accreditation is valid for five years. A team of AMBA officials had visited the campus on August 13-14 to finally evaluate the institute for accreditation.

Dr Singh said the prestigious international accreditation is a matter of pride for the institution. “We are indeed delighted to get the AMBA accreditation. This proves that the intellectual resources and processes at IMI meet the global standards. With this accreditation, we have joined the league of global B-schools,” he said.

Established in 1981, IMI is counted among India’s top B-schools. In the last two years, it has added two more campuses – one each in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. The institute is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS).

In a recent interview with MBAUniverse.com, AMBA CEO Sharon Bamford had said at least three B-schools from India were actively pursuing AMBA accreditation. According to Ms Bamford, more international accreditation to Indian B-schools will help the management environment in the country and bring global competence in attracting students from other Asian countries and emerging markets.
“A truly global school is when it becomes a true melting pot of cultures and viewpoints. There are excellent academics in India and there is a strong foundation of high standards in education. Having internationally recognized accreditation will also help encourage students from other countries to Indian business schools,” she had said.

AMBA is an international accreditation agency and it brings international recognition for the high standards of MBA programmes it accredits. Once a business school receives AMBA accreditation, it can access international MBA networks through AMBA accredited business schools worldwide. There are 195 business schools across the globe that carry AMBA accreditation to their management programmes.
