As a majority of CAT 2012 test centres in metro cities run out of capacity despite a week still remaining for registration, Prof SSS Kumar, convener of CAT 2012, has assured applicants that “there will be no dearth of capacity for CAT takers”.

Speaking to MBAUniverse.com on the rush for CAT registration, Prof Kumar said there is enough capacity at CAT test centres and all the applicants will be accommodated to appear for the test. He, however, said late comers might not get the centre of their choice.

“I assure there will be no dearth of capacity for aspirants. If you have determined to take CAT 2012, there will be enough room for you to schedule a test,” Prof Kumar said.

When asked if there would be any addition of seats at some of the selected centres that are not accepting any more applicants for now, Prof Kumar said there is “enough capacity at the centres to accommodate all the applicants.”
MBAUniverse.com recently reported that a majority of the test centers in metro cities are running out of capacity to accommodate more applicants. For example, the centres in Delhi are filled on all the dates. One in Mumbai and a few others in Pune and Chennai are among centres which now refuse to accommodate any more takers.

According to CAT organizers, the unavailability of seats at various centres is primarily because of limited number of seats at each of the venues and those seats being allocated to candidates opting for a particular date at a particular centre.

Prof Kumar said the way for CAT applicants to get the centre of their choice is to register as soon as possible. “From the first four weeks onwards, the registration is taking place at a fast pace. If you are yet to buy the voucher or register, I would suggest you to do it fast as you may not get the date or the center of your choice,” he said.

The registration process started from July 30. There is now just a week left as the process comes to an end on Wednesday, September 19. The last date to buy the CAT voucher is September 17.
The computer-based CAT 2012 will be held in a window of 21 days, from October 11 to November 6, 2012.

Going by the trend of registration in the metro cities, the middle and end slots are the most sought after dates. A few centers in Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata have dates left in November as well.
