XAT 2013 exam is 60 days away. Now that CAT 2012 is over, XAT is one of the important examinations on the testing calendar you should focus on so far as preparation is concerned. In this article, MBAUniverse.com shares some important information which will stand you in good stead.

In an exclusive interaction with MBAUniverse.com, Prof Vishwa Ballabh, admission chairperson, XLRI, shared some important aspects of the exam pattern.

Number of Questions

The number of questions in the XAT exam varies every year. While XAT 2012 had 85 questions, during the past three years -- XAT 2009 to XAT 2011 -- the number of questions was 101. Prof Ballabh said the number of questions in XAT 2013 will be between 85 and 95. “The number of questions in XAT 2013 will be between 85 and 95. It won’t be less than 85 and not more than 95.”

This is the number of questions which will be asked in the Section A or Part 1 of the paper. This part will have three sections -- data interpretation & quantitative ability, verbal & logical ability and analytical reasoning & decision making.

In the second part, the General Awareness section will have 25-30 questions. This section is being introduced for the first time in the XAT exam. The duration of this section will be 20 minutes.

Pattern of questions

Questions in general awareness will be from business, economics and politics related to business environment. “If you read the pink papers such as The Economic Times, Business Standard, Mint, Business Week, Hindu Business Line, etc, you should be able to answer the questions. You need to have an aptitude on the current political and economic scenario of the country and the world,” Prof Ballabh mentioned.

Registration underway

The registration process for XAT 2013 is going on at present. The last date to register is November 30, 2012. When asked whether XLRI has any plan to extend the registration deadline, Prof Ballabh answered in the negative. “We don’t have any plan to extend the registration deadline. We have already kept the registration window long enough to accommodate aspirants. My advice to aspirants is not to wait for the last moment. Apply at the earliest for both XAT and XLRI.” The registration process began on August 20, 2012.
