How to prepare for Quant Section:

Going by the trend of the past few years, it has been observed that the maximum questions are asked from the Arithmetic, Algebra and Number System. The other areas such as Geometry, Mensuration and Higher Maths are also common but the number of questions is lower than the rest of the topics.

Hence, you should start the basic preparation with the topics of Arithmetic and Algebra, which are the basic and most scoring parts. The approach to the above mentioned areas will vary from each other, when you are preparing for Quantitative Ability for CAT 2013.

The four areas of Quant viz., Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry & Modern Math require different skill sets.

• Arithmetic: how to 'apply' formulae;
• Algebra: reading and understanding the question;
• Geometry; ability to visualize;
• Modern Math: Your logical reasoning ability.

While preparing, you must keep in mind that speed and accuracy are the two most important factors which can help you score high in the Quantitative Ability part of the CAT 2013.

To start with, you can refer to the basic preparation material for the Quantitative Ability section and then progress towards the books meant for CAT preparation. NCERT arithmetic text books from classes VIII to X are the best in this regard.

Prepare a time table for the topic wise preparation of the Quantitative Ability section of CAT exam. It is  recommended to go for alternate day study selecting the areas like Monday - Arithmetic, Tuesday - Algebra, Wednesday - Geometry, Thursday - Modern Math, Friday - take test, Saturday - analyze, Sunday - revise weak areas. This, in a way, would ensure that you cover all the areas in the Quant equally.

You must also take a couple of speed math tests every week. This will not only help you remain up to date with your preparation level of the Quantitative Ability section for CAT 2013 but will also be able to excel your speed and accuracy.
