CAT 2013 Day 1: Quant tricky and Tough, Verbal easy

CAT 2013 Day 1 first session is over. The paper was moderate to difficult with Quant being the toughest and verbal the easiest sections.
DI was the trickiest for me. Quant questions looked easy but were difficult while solving. One of the LR questions was a repeat of CAT 2012.

CAT 2013 is now underway. The first exam for Day 1, on October 16, got over this afternoon at 12.30PM. MBAUniverse.com editorial team was present on many centers in New Delhi and spoke to students for their first reaction. According to students, the overall difficulty level of CAT continues to be on the tougher side. Students also said that Quantitative section was tough and tricky while the Verbal section was easier.

A test taker Raghav from Delhi, who has also given CAT 2012 said, “I attempted 16 questions in Quant and 14 questions in Verbal section. DI was the trickiest for me. Quant questions looked easy but were difficult while solving. One of the LR questions was similar to CAT 2012.”

Another test taker Sheilly Jain said, “There were no questions from Number system and PC which was bad for me as I expected at least 5 questions from both.”

Let us have a look at the question types in the sections:

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation: Tougher and trickier
The Quantitative Ability area had maximum questions from Geometry and Algebra. Rest of the questions was from the other known topics such as Arithmetic, Trigonometry, Functions, Mensuration, Time Speed & Distance etc.

Number Systems, Permutation & Combination were not present in many students question set. Data Interpretation area saw questions on Pie Chart and Caselets.

Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning: Lengthy but easy
The Verbal Ability questions were on Reading Comprehension, Para Jumble, Vocabulary, Error correction in paragraph, identifying the Out of Context sentences. According to MBAUniverse.com Verbal Ability expert Prof SK Agarwal, the paper was similar to last year’s pattern.

The Logical Reasoning questions were lengthy and tricky. One of the LR questions was similar to last year’s paper.

Around 4200 students are sitting for the CAT 2013 exam on October 16, the Day 1 of CAT 2013. The first session of the CAT 2013 also saw a lower attendance of students.
