One of the big recent trends in Indian MBA education is the rise of Private University MBA programs. Unlike US, where all the top MBA programs are offered by University based B-schools like Harvard Business School and Chicago Booth School of Business, in India, stand-alone B-schools like IIMs, XLRI and SPJain have dominated Top rankings charts. NMIMS University and Symbiosis University are two notable exceptions. But this scenario is changing now. Many of the 600 odd Private Universities are getting serious about building the quality and brand of their MBA programs, and this change is good news for prospective MBA admission seekers!
Types of MBA/PGDM Programs in India
There are four key types of MBA programs in India. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Understanding this categorization will help you chose the right MBA program for you.

MBA program offered by well known Private Universities are emerging as an alternative to mid-ranked PGDM B-schools, because of following reasons:
-Infrastructure: A university has a lot more resources and common facilities which can be used by the students of different schools.
-Brand Recognition: Most of the Private Universities are well known education brands, which can help in your placements & career
-Competitive Fees: The 2 year fee for MBA program at well known private universities ranges from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs
Leading Private University B Schools
Some of the leading private universities offering MBA courses are Mumbai based Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai; Pune based Symbiosis University, which has 13 B-schools SIBM and SCMHRD and Ahmedabad based NIRMA University. MBA Admissions 2014 to these are unfortunately closed. For example, NMIMS informed MBAUniverse.com recently that the Cut-off for this year has been declared as 94.7% and out of 63106 candidates appeared, 2289 have been shortlisted for Personal Interview round.
However, there are still many well known Universities like Alliance University, Bangalore; University of Petroleum and energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun; VIT Business School, Chennai & Vellore where MBA Admissions 2014 are still open.
