After a few days of moderate and doable test, NMAT 2015 has begun getting tough. Number of candidates have now found the NMAT growing more difficult and would like to go for a re-take of the test to improve their scores. Long calculations in Data Interpretation questions were more time consuming and questions in Logical Reasoning section caught the candidates in a trap. Despite being doable the questions were long and the circuitous route had to be taken by the candidates to solve these questions. Because of this long process most of the NMAT 2015 aspirants were not able to solve number of questions as the section had time constraint.

Since NMAT is a computer delivered test it displays questions one at a time. Only after a candidate takes an action on the first question, the computer will display the next question.  Each section in NMAT has individual time limit and candidates need to complete answering the questions and reviewing the section within the allotted sectional time limit.

The facility to choose the order/sequence of the test sections was also of not much help for the candidates. Due to a lengthy and time consuming questions candidates found it difficult to solve the test as per their expectations. A few of the candidates were of the view that overall experience was not good and they didn’t expect high scores in NMAT, hence they would go for a retake of the exam.  NMAT has no negative marking and in spite of this fact, the test remained tough for many candidates.

Section wise analysis follows

Language Skills

According to the test takers Vocabulary in NMAT had different approach. Even Norman Lewis’ ‘Word Power’ didn’t help much.  The reason was that the candidates despite knowing the main key word couldn’t solve the vocabulary based questions. The obvious reason was difficult option words and usage which most of the test takers were not aware of.

There 4-5 jumbled paragraphs that could by rated as moderate to difficult but were doable. 11 questions were based on Reading Comprehension passages. Passages were although not very long but were tricky and consumed more time in reading and arriving at correct answer option.  In core grammar section apart from other questions, 5 questions were based only on usage of prepositions.

No doubt NMAT 2015 takers had tough time to solve the Language skills section in given time slot.  There were 32 questions in this section which had to be solved in 22 minutes.

Quantitative Skills

Quantitative skills section comprises Data Interpretation and Data sufficiency apart from questions on Quant.

There were 20 questions only on Data Interpretation. The questions were more time consuming, graphs, tables were long and had to be understood well before proceeding to answer the set of questions.  Questions on Quant covered maximum number of topics. Questions were moderate to difficult and were based on time, speed, distance Arithmetic, modern math, trigonometry, geometry, Algebra, Number system, PnC. This section had 48 questions and had to be solved in 60 minutes.

Logical Reasoning

Numbers of NMAT 2015 takers were caught in a trap in Logical reasoning section. A few questions were lengthy enough to consume more time. Many candidates took 4-5 minutes to solve a question based on Venn diagram. This resulted loss of more time while the  maximum marks allotted to each question were same.

Candidates though that there would be more questions of similar type in the set, but to their surprise they found that it was one only.

There was Input-output set which threw surprise to many. Candidates could not figure out the last step where words were converted into numbers.  A good volume of questions on Verbal reasoning appeared in the exam.

Other questions on Logical Reasoning were based on family tree, assumptions, series, statements. The section was lengthy although most of the questions were doable. Candidates however could not solve as many questions as they could due to time constraint. 40 questions in this section were supposed to be completed in 38 minutes.
